One of the things that sets the United States apart from the rest of the world is that we are supposed to have certain civil liberties guaranteed to us by the U.S. Constitution. Of course the U.S. Constitution has been absolutely trampled on by many of our leaders for decades, but most Americans still deeply cherish the basic rights which are enshrined in our founding document. Unfortunately, many of our politicians are convinced that all of those rights can be taken away during a “national emergency”, and these days the bar for declaring a “national emergency” has been set very low.
Yes, this coronavirus pandemic is a major threat, and experts are warning that millions of Americans could die. But in the process of fighting this virus, we don’t want to relinquish the freedoms that previous generations of Americans fought so hard to secure for us. As history has demonstrated, once certain freedoms are gone they can be exceedingly difficult to get back. We are now being warned that this pandemic could last 18 months or longer, and losing any of our freedoms for that long is absolutely unthinkable.
Unfortunately, some of our politicians are apparently thinking about the unthinkable.
I would like for you to consider something that California Governor Gavin Newsom just told the media very carefully…

Gavin Newsom in a Sunday presser said that martial law was not necessary to combat coronavirus in his state. “If you want to establish a framework of martial law, which is ultimate authority and enforcement, we have the capacity to do that, but we are not feeling at this moment that is a necessity,” Newsom said.
At this moment? Does that mean that later on it may become “a necessity”?
And while we strongly feel that the best thing that we can do to help our families and loved ones while helping 1st responders in the process is to 'shelter in place' within our own homes for an extended period of time, what happens if that 'period of time' becomes 18 months or longer? Ackman didn't mince his words in his message to President Trump while warning that America can surely survive a 30-day nationwide shutdown but could never survive a shutdown that goes on for 18 months or more, with the hotel and restaurant industries already hard hit along with the entertainment industry. Billionaire Bill Ackman has warned that 'America will end as we know it' unless President Trump immediately shuts down the entire country for 30 days.
Hedge fund manager Ackman made the dismal predictions in a Twitter post Wednesday and in an interview with CNBC, in which he urged President Trump and other global leaders to 'shut the world for 30 days'.
He said urgent action is needed now if the economy is to survive and if lives are to be spared amid the rapidly escalating coronavirus pandemic.
The 'gradual roll-out' of closures and measures being taken now are not enough to stop the crisis which is already bankrupting the economy, starting with hotels and restaurants, he said.
Ackman made the somber prediction that 'hell is coming' and warned that the US as we now know it is ending.
'America will end as we know it. I'm sorry to say so, unless we take this option,' he said in an interview with CNBC Tuesday afternoon. 'Hell is coming,' he warned. The 'only answer for the world is to shut the world for 30 days,' he told CNBC.
'We have an invisible, silent, deadly enemy. How do we kill it? Everyone just goes home.'
The stark warning followed his desperate bid to President Trump earlier on Wednesday to shut the US down with an extended Spring Break holiday, saying it is the 'only answer' to spare the nation from economic catastrophe.
'Mr. President, the only answer is to shut down the country for the next 30 days and close the borders. Tell all Americans that you are putting us on an extended Spring Break at home with family. Keep only essential services open. The government pays wages until we reopen,' Ackman said in a Twitter post Wednesday morning.
And while we've urged in our stories for nearly two months now that ANP readers prepare to 'shelter in place' to both minimize our own exposure to the virus as well as make the lives of our 1st responders a little bit easier, as Brandon Smith reports in this new story over at Alt Market, the 'average American' is totally in a daze, completely unprepared for any kind of an extended shutdown with many running around supermarkets attempting to prepare like chickens with their heads cut off.
With it long warned that only 9 meals separate a civilized society from total anarchy and many of America's store shelves already going empty as Susan Duclos had reported in this March 18th ANP story and we also hear in the 1st video at the bottom of this story from 'Ice Age Farmer', we pray that everybody is completely prepared should an 'extended shutdown' of America soon be announced with that possibly being the only way to finally put an end to this Chinese virus. America is in a haze right now. It seems like half the country is in denial of the danger while the other half is awaking from apathy and frantically trying to prepare. This is creating a fog of confusion as one side screams “it's nothing but the flu, stop buying up the grocery store...!”, and the other side just keeps stocking goods, though in an inexperienced way that prioritizes comfort over practicality.
The other day I went by the grocery store to grab a few peripheral items while they still exist on sale, and this was the first time since the Covid-19 situation began that people in my area actually seemed...different. The usual carefree obliviousness was gone from their faces and they all had a deer-in-the-headlights look, their eyes wide as saucers as they nervously scrambled around the store. None of them were absorbed into their cell phones. All of them were alert as many people huddled over their cart, quickly snatching items from the shelves as if protecting themselves from potential thieves. It seems that reality is finally hitting the masses square in the face like a sucker punch.
Suddenly, the prepper movement doesn't look so “crazy” after all, and average people are now turning to prepper forums and websites to ask us for information on how to plan more effectively. Instead of stacking piles of toilet paper for psychological comfort, they are now buying food supplies. The people who used to accuse us of being “chicken littles” and “doom mongers” are eerily silent. I almost miss them. At the very least, everyone is now concerned about the situation, if not for different reasons.
This is a far cry from the past two months, when governments around the world as well as the UN's WHO continually downplayed the pandemic threat and offered the public nothing in terms of usable advice. The establishment consistently kept the public in the dark, not just on the virus and its capabilities but also on the vast weaknesses in the global economy. Abruptly in the past week they suggest that a threat is ahead and now millions of people are scrambling to prepare however they can.
As I have noted in previous articles, there is a reason why the establishment refused to inform the citizenry of the instabilities inherent in the pandemic scenario; the more unknowns there are for the public the more panic will set it, chaos ensues, and it is chaos that can be exploited to push forward numerous agendas. These agendas include global centralization as well as the erasure of constitutional liberties.
So with an unknown future ahead of us and the very real possibility that this crisis will be used to push a curtailment of civil liberties as we had also warned on March 16th in this story titled "Heads Up!
