Raging wildfires, violent storms, volcanic eruptions, wars and earthquakes—is the earth trying to expel its inhabitants and wipe us off the planet? Or is it just trying to right itself from a fallen condition? According to Steve Quayle in a recent SQnote he left on this story over at The Watchers reporting upon recent record rainfall and flooding in Malaysia, we'll be witnessing events both cosmic and upon our planet Earth with no modern historic precedent taking place.
In Matthew 24, Jesus warned that these calamities are only beginning stages of the end, like a woman’s pains increasing in intensity until the old is taken away and something is birthed. What kind of something? Like maybe a new earth….or more likely a restored earth, restored to its original condition when God looked at his creation and called it good.
“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning—the sixth day.” Genesis 1:31
But what about the doomsday hypothesis? Where does it enter in?
The hypothesis begins with the earth’s tilted axis. National Geographic tells us that some planets, such as Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter, have axes that are almost completely perpendicular, or straight up-and-down, while the earth's poles have an axial tilt.
But it wasn’t always that way, according to some modern-day prophets who believe that in the beginning the earth’s poles were upright, making conditions right for an earthly paradise. In his book, Panorama of Creation, Dr. Carl Baugh describes an earth sheltered by a water canopy above the firmament, resulting in a mild, seasonless climate, uniform from pole to pole.
“There were no weather changes or storms as we have today,” Dr. Baugh asserted. “The canopy provided more oxygen, a heavier atmosphere, and a radiation shield.”
This canopied, highly oxygenated earth was conducive to health and longer life, as affirmed by biblical accounts of people living to the age of several hundred years. But man’s idyllic environment changed when God pronounced judgment in the form of a worldwide Flood.
“In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the spring of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.” Genesis 7:11
A text in the book, A Biblical History of the Americas, states, “As part of the cataclysmic judgment of the Flood, the axis of the earth began a move to what appears today to be a 23-degree tilt. This tilt further contributes to the change of climate and eventual formation of ice at the poles—the “deep freeze” of many plants and animals.”
But most scientists will have none of this talk about a cataclysmic judgment on the earth. Although some may allow for a slight magnetic pole reversal or “rightening” of the earth’s tilted pole, they call polar wander a common occurrence that happens gradually over millennia. All in all, we are told that there is nothing in the geologic record to suggest a doomsday scenario should be taken seriously.
Neither are pole reversals any big deal from NASA’s standpoint. A NASA site addressing the subject entitled “It Happens all the Time” asserts that the earth is on a fixed-spin axis, and over millennia there have been no super-rapid shifts in the axial tilt.
So not to worry: Polar point A never becomes point B, and the earthquakes, explosive volcanos, violent storms and floods, famines, wars and weather extremes prophesied for the end of times won’t really be happening.
Only they are!
In fact, as they see the beginning of the end, doomsday prophets like Survival Dan predict cold, wet and windy weather worldwide, resulting in the destruction of crops, and causing food riots and starvation. “For many reasons, human civilization is set up for a crisis and collapse that will devastate billions, and there are people who are well aware of where the present trends are taking us,” he said. ‘Some people do prepare but most prefer to believe everything is just fine.”
Even scientists who are open to discussion about an impending polar shift mainly focus on the ways a disturbance of the earth’s electromagnet field would be harmful to today’s lifestyle: interrupting power grids and disrupting the masses’ multitude of modern technological devices.
“Aviation would probably need significant reworking in order to function, our satellites would need to be redesigned, and earth-bound power grids could experience interruptions under the altered circumstances,” an article in Futurism News predicted. “That being said, while we can’t predict exactly when the next pole reversal will occur, most scientists don’t think it could lead to mass extinction.”
But some pole watchers fear earth will become a death zone during a cataclysmic pole shift and are giving out tips on how to survive the earthquakes, hurricane winds, moving flood waters and pole-shift waves as high as tsunamis.. Those who survive to face “after-time living” are cautioned to move inland since all coastal areas of the globe are considered dangerous.
Chris Davis, publisher of an online newsletter called Surviving the Pole Shift, urges readers who head for mountainous areas to watch for dangers like falling rock and landslides and to consider the age of the mountain range before heading up. “The Rockies and Sierras are young and sharp, equaling danger, while the Appalachians and the Ozarks of eastern USA are rolling, smoothed-over and much older, which equals safety,” Davis wrote..
He named several locations as safe places for after-time survival, mostly in inland states such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, West Virginia, mountainous Pennsylvania, Iowa, Missouri and Illinois.
Though scientists may reject the idea of a righteous God judging the earth for sin, they cannot ignore the visible consequences that are making headline news every day. According to Scripture, they portend a cataclysmic end for this planet.
“The floodgates of the heavens are opened, the foundations of the earth shake. The earth is broken up, the earth is split asunder, the earth is thoroughly shaken. The earth will stagger like a drunken man, and will sway back and forth like a hut in the wind… the guilt of its rebellion is so heavy upon it that it falls—never to rise again.” Isaiah 24:20
But after the deluge, the prophet Isaiah predicts transformation and restoration will characterize a time when the earth is restored to its original untainted perfection. He tells us that at last the world will have peace in an era when men discard their weapons and no longer have to go to war.
In the renewed earth, even the predatory natures of wild animals will be changed, reverting back to Genesis times when all creatures were herbivores.
“The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie own with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox…. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” Isaiah 11:6-9
Dr. A. J. Brown, author of “Prophetic Insights into the Last Days,” believes the millennial age is when God works through a restoration process, reversing the effect of mankind’s fall into sin. “It is somewhat like a movie running backward,” he explained, “with the restoration of the unsullied earth and pre-flood longevity.
“But we won’t see a complete state of perfection until after the Great White Throne judgment.”
