Not quite the norm for ANP and definitely going into the "alt" side of the front page, but the video below is so well done and presents an accurate account of historical legends going back 30,000 years of the elusive myth of Mermaids, stating clearly no evidence has ever been found proving the existence of these mythical creatures, no bones, DNA, no live captures, yet they "occupy the collective unconscious of nearly all seafaring people," insisting the answer of why is best left to historians, philisophers and anthropologists.
From ancient Greek poets to Greek mythology to ancient far east legends and Aboriginal peoples, Mermaids have been carved into walls, sculptured, drawn, written about and has been in tales passed down throughout the centuries.
After explaining the history, YouTuber TheMusicmemorylane presents some very interesting "clues" that suggest perhaps Mermaids are more than just a fairy tale.... then again, perhaps not.
Via the video details:
The belief in mermaids may have arisen at the very dawn of our species. Magical female figures first appear in cave paintings in the late Paleolithic (Stone Age) period some 30,000 years ago, when modern humans gained dominion over the land and, presumably, began to sail the seas. Half-human creatures, called chimeras, also abound in mythology — in addition to mermaids, there were wise centaurs, wild satyrs, and frightful minotaurs, to name but a few. But are mermaids real? No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found. Why, then, do they occupy the collective unconscious of nearly all seafaring peoples? That’s a question best left to historians, philosophers, and anthropologists.
