In 1993, actor Ted Danson, on a dare from his then-girlfriend Whoopi Goldberg, who happens to be black, stood on a stage in front of 3,000 people wearing blackface and telling loaded, vulgar jokes, using the term nigger frequently. Not only did Goldberg encourage this performance, but when some criticized it, she defended Danson by saying "Let's get these words all out in the open. It took a whole lot of courage to come out in blackface in front of 3,000 people. I don't care if you didn't like it. I did."
Another person at the time, black model Beverly Johnson also defended Danson's performance, stating "If you can't see the humor at a place where there's supposed to be over-the-line jokes, then there's something really wrong."
It was a roast, it was supposed to be offensive, that was at a time when common sense was applied and humor was considered entertainment, not offense.
Those days are gone...........thanks to social justice warriors and liberals that have decided that everything is offensive to someone, therefore speech should be censored and jokes should never offend anyone.
EATING THEIR OWN BECAUSE THEY'RE CONSTANTLY CHANGING 'THE RULES'
I always did love the expression "hoisted by his own petard," which literally meant blown up with his own bomb as "petard" references a small bomb, indicative of an ironic reversal of poetic justice, according to Wiki, but never have I seen a time period in America that so accurately reflects this expression more.
In Virginia this past week we have seen a number of "bombs" blowing up their makers.
Infanticide Scandal: It began when Delegate Kathy Tran proposed a late term abortion bill, where she admitted and captured doing so on camera, that her bill including terminating a pregnancy up to the 40th week, even if the mother was already dilating. That was immediately followed up with the Virginia Governor Ralph Northam defending his support for the late-term abortion bill, in an interview with WTOP Radio, where his remarks apparently took it further by indicating that even after the baby was born, outside the womb, the parents and doctors would still be able to have a "discussion" about whether the baby lived or died.
"This is why decisions such as this should be made by providers, physicians, and the mothers and fathers that are involved," Northam said on Wednesday. "When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of obviously the mother, with the consent of the physician — more than one physician, by the way — and it's done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that's non-viable."
"If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen," Northam said. "The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that's what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother."
Christians, Republicans and even some moderate Democrats, were appalled at the suggestion that there was any more "discussion" about what was to be done regarding a child that had already been born and was breathing, accusing Northam of promoting infanticide. Calls for Northam's resignation started on the right.
Infanticide is the "crime of killing a child within a year from birth," according to Google definitions. Encyclopedia Britannica describes it as "the killing of the newborn."
Northam denied he was talking about infanticide, so those that wish to hear it in his own words, his comments are shown in the video at the end of this article.
Blackface Scandal: As a direct result of Northam's own words, a former medical school classmate became so angered that he sent the website Big League Politics a copy of Northam's medical school yearbook page, which included a photo of two men, one wearing blackface and one wearing a KKK hood and robe.
Northam originally admitted he was one of the two in the image, then by the next day, claimed he wasn't, but that he did once dress in blackface when imitating pop star Michael Jackson.
All of a sudden Democrats that were defending his infanticide remarks, were demanding he resign, all over what they called "racist," images, despite the fact that 30 years ago, when the pictures were taken, blackface was not treated like a capital offense, most saw it as a joke, as the image at the top of this article shows, where even black comedians were laughing and defending it as entertainment.
How messed up is it that the Democrats, as party of liberals, take more offence over a 30 years picture of a man in blackface than they do about killing newborn babies?
The flip side, is that their constantly trying to change "the rules" have them now eating their own in Virginia, because now the left and the right are calling for Northam's resignation.
VA Sexual Assault Scandal: Which beings me to scandal number three, the "always believe survivors" movement, known as #MeToo, which has the Lt. Governor of Virginia Democrat Justin Fairfax, who would replace Northam if the Governor resigned, ensnared in his own sexual assault scandal.
During the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings for the Supreme Court seat, a professor, Christine Blasey Ford, accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault. She didn't remember when, just that it was over 30 years before, she didn't remember where, or how she got to the location, or how she got home. She couldn't produce one witness that could confirm her assertions, despite her claim that her best friend at the time was there.
Without any evidence, no confirmation, nothing at all to prove her allegation, feminist liberals across the nation declared all survivors must be believed! The new rule, was that a person was automatically guilty if a mere allegation was made. Innocent until proven guilty was no longer the standard, now it was guilty unless the person accused could prove his innocence.
Fast forward to Virginia's bad, no good, absolutely horrible start to February, another professor, Dr. Vanessa C. Tyson, is accusing VA's LT. Governor Fairfax of sexually assaulting her in 2004, she claims Fairfax physically forced her to perform oral sex. Fairfax acknowledges the encounter, but claims it was consensual, which Tyson vehemently denies.
“Utterly shocked and terrified, I tried to move my head away, but could not because his hand was holding down my neck and he was much stronger than me,” she said. “As I cried and gagged, Mr. Fairfax forced me to perform oral sex on him. I cannot believe, given my obvious distress, that Mr. Fairfax thought this forced sexual act was consensual.”
She added: “To be very clear, I did not want to engage in oral sex with Mr. Fairfax and I never gave him any form of consent. Quite the opposite. I consciously avoided Mr. Fairfax for the remainder of the Convention and I never spoke to him again.”
This now puts liberal #MeToo feminists in a bind. Their new rules, when a conservative is accused of sexual assault, is that all women must be believed, evidence, confirmation and/or proof of any kind, is not needed, yet now it is a Democrat being accused of sexual assault, again with no proof, evidence or confirmation. The difference between the Kavanaugh and Fairfax situations is that Kavanaugh denied any encounter ever occurred and Fairfax acknowledges the encounter, just claims it was consensual. The only other difference is that Ford's claim went back over 30 years ago, and Tyson's stems from just 14 years ago.
Once again, say it with me folks... Hoisted by their own petard!!!
As a side note, but just to show that sometimes life is much more unbelievable than fiction, it seems that Professor Tyson has hired the same law firm as Blasey-Ford used, while Fairfax has hired the same lawyers that Kavanaugh used.
Deja vu anyone???
BOTTOM LINE
As Stefan just pointed out to me, it is called Alinsky's Rules #4 - "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules."
The party of the perpetually outraged, that found no "outrage" in a sitting Democrat Governor supporting the murder of a newborn baby, yet are completely freaking out over 30 year old blackface pictures because they decided years ago those were not done as entertainment but was done out of racism, are now being forced to eat their own because they changed the rules.
Same goes for the sexual assault accusations about Fairfax. Before the whole Kavanaugh fiasco, I would have said loudly "innocent until proven guilty," but they decided those common sense rules no longer apply, so the heck with it, let the enemy live up to its own rule book.
As for Republicans, they need to learn that we do not have to follow liberals' new, ever-changing rules, and the next time the liberal lynch mob comes for a Republican, we should follow the advice of Townhall's Kurt Schlichter, we should tell them to "go pound sand."
