Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy Said That Crackdown On Crime By Trump Is Prompting Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom To Stop Acting Like A 'Princess'

Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy said that President Donald Trump’s crackdown on crime is prompting Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom to stop acting like a “princess.”
Kennedy said on Fox News’ “America Reports” that he is pleasantly surprised by Newsom’s deployment of state police teams to combat crime in his state’s major cities in response to Trump threatening to send the National Guard to San Francisco and other cities across the state. The Louisiana senator said that Trump’s crackdown on crime has influenced state leaders like Newsom to begin taking more aggressive action against criminal acts.
“[Newsom] has surprised all of us and done something intelligent. He has decided to send the California state police into his major cities to help local cops fight crime and violence. Now you don’t have to be a senior at Caltech to know that’s in response to the Trump administration’s threat to send in federal law enforcement officials, but look, I’ll take it. If that’s what it takes to get Governor Newsom to stop being a princess, I’ll take that too,” Kennedy said.

Trump has floated the idea of sending National Guard troops to several U.S. cities, including Baltimore, Maryland, Portland, Oregon, Seattle, Washington, Chicago, Illinois and New York City. The president said he is considering sending National Guard members to San Francisco to “clean up” the city.
Newsom claimed he was not “reacting or responding to anything” related to Trump’s threats and that his actions are in deep “contrast” to what the president has done in Washington, D.C., Politico reported. Trump’s federal takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department and National Guard deployment in the nation’s capital has led to 1,369 arrests and 140 illegal gun confiscations, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on Friday.
The California governor stated on Thursday that Louisiana’s crime rate is four times higher than California’s, leading Kennedy to say that crime and violence has only gotten worse since Newsom has been in office.
“Every year that [Newsom] has been governor, crime and violence has gotten worse in California,” Kennedy said. “Why? Because Governor Newsom is a member of the socialist wing of his party. Because Governor Newsom has refused to get off of his ice cold lazy butt and do something about it. Because Governor Newsom thinks that talking about crime, [and] he’s only doing it under pressure, is racist. Because he thinks the cops are a bigger problem than criminals.”
