On October 17, 2025, President Trump signed the Proclamation Adjusting Imports Of Medium- And Heavy-Duty Vehicles, Medium- And Heavy-Duty Vehicle Parts, And Buses Into The United States concluding the past 3 weeks of announcements, speculations, and reports regarding a 25% tariff on medium- and heavy-duty vehicles & respective parts coming into the US. These vehicles play an important role in US national security by enabling transport of personnel, weapons systems, ground defense vehicles, and critical supplies. These vehicles also impact US economic stability & critical infrastructure as they transport over 70% of US essential goods like food, fuel, and medicine. In 2025, about 43% of these vehicles are imported with 50% of the heaviest-duty trucks being imports, many with proprietary replacements parts that also must be imported. Therefore, President Trump under section 232 of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 USC 1702 et seq.), section 604 & 301 of Title 3 USC proclaims a 25% import tariff be established starting November 1, 2025.

Trump Addresses the Threat to National Security from Imports of Medium and Heavy-Duty Vehicles, Parts, and Buses explains that this Proclamation supports the US trucking industry with a 25% tariff on imports of medium- and heavy-duty trucks & associated parts as well as a 10% tariff on imports of busses. It is hoped that these tariffs incentivize future domestic production of these vehicles by strengthening US truck manufacturing over time. This proclamation builds on President Trump's plan to Make America Great Again.
In my June 28, 2025 ANP Article I noted that during 3 years of traveling, gas prices declined in the states where I stopped for gas. In my July 1, 2025 ANP Article I noted GasBuddy anticipated average prices in the $3.18 range. In my August 29, 2025 ANP Article GasBuddy was anticipating the lowest gas prices on Labor Day since 2020. GasBuddy, in addition to showing the lowest gas prices in your particular area, also has charts showing average gas prices over various periods of time from 1 month to 10 years. The article anticipates gas to dip below $3.00 before the end of the year. However, anyone keeping track of gas prices knows that gas prices go up just before Memorial Day Weekend, continue to rise over the summer months, and start going down after school starts with the lowest prices right around election day in November.

Some people speculated that the Democrats are holding off on approving the CR (that they approved last March) until after the "No Kings mostly peaceful protests" funded by Soros and organized by antifa and associated domestic terror groups scheduled for October 18, 2025 in various cities around the country. The October 18, 2025 "rally/protest" will focus on protecting the "rights" of illegal aliens and vilifying Law Enforcement and the Trump Administration for arresting and deporting those who entered our country illegally - no matter how long they have been here.
I notice that the 3 "rallies" scheduled for my town are staggered by time. South part of town is 10am to 1pm, north part of town at the Federal courthouse is 11 am to 1 pm, and the one middle of town is 4:30 pm to 6 pm (allowing the folks from both the north and south parts of town to make their way to the middle of town).
Looking at San Francisco, California, they, too, are staggering the times so people have time to make it from one event to another.
In Portland, Oregon, there are many events scheduled the earliest starts at 9 am the last at 3 pm.
In Seattle, Washington has 3 events scheduled in central Seattle, 10 am, 11 am, noon.
Chicago, IL, has 10 or so events scheduled starting as early as 10 am with the last one scheduled at 5:30 pm.
There are a number of them scheduled for NYC, NY starting at 10 am with time for the people to travel from one event to another.
Houston, Texas has a couple at 10 am, a few at 11 am, some others at noon, with the last at 4 pm.
The 3 in the Miami, FL area all start at 10 am.
In the Tampa, Florida area, Clearwater has 2 one at 9 am the other at 10 am. The one in Largo starts at 10 am; St. Petersburg at 9:30 am; St Petersburg at 9:30 am, and Gulfport at 10:30 am.
Very interesting. If they had enough people, it would be much more impressive to hold all the events at the same time. As is, they don't have enough people, so they are having to stagger the start times.
Personally, I think the shutdown will continue as long as the Democrats can keep it going. Remember they kept it going for 35 days in President Trump's first term. I'm sure they're anticipating at least 36 days (breaking the record) for this time.
The Bipartisan Policy organization tells us that at least 700,000 employees are furloughed (not working) and another 700,000 employees continue to work even though they know they will not be paid in a timely manner (although many air traffic controllers are calling in sick these days). In addition 3 million active-duty personnel and over 750,000 National Guard and Reserve personnel are at risk of not getting a paycheck at the end of the month. The October 15, 2025 paycheck for military members was paid from reallocated funds. The Antideficiency Act says reallocation of funds, once repurposed, must be reported to the President and to Congress "immediately" it does not indicate what the President and/or Congress is supposed to do once they are notified. And, in this case, it was the President who authorized the reallocation.
