A common theme these days seen in comment sections, social media platforms and chat forums is how there is a "feel" to the events we are witnessing daily... a feeling of danger, a feeling of an explosion just waiting for that one match to hit the powder keg in just the right manner to make everything explode, figuratively and in some cases literally.
From the political posturing from both the left and right side of the aisle, to the rioting by Antifa and BLM in the streets of America, to the deliberately burning of buildings, the setting off of explosive devices to kill law enforcement officers in out-of-control liberal cities, to wars and rumors of wars across the globe, we are seeing a time of unrest coming from every conceivable direction.
Knowing that at any moment life as we know it right now, may be forever changed, whether from a terrorist attack, EMP, or a pandemic, or from national events such as riots coming close to your with Antifa and BLM burning down your town or one close, or any number of other possible events like trucking companies saying they will stop the supply chain in cities where liberals "defund the police," it comes to a time when we have task ourselves and very serious question.
If "Sh*t Hit The Fan" today, right this second, what are you missing in your preps?
Could you survive a week, a month, or even a year or more, with only what you have in your prepping stores, or the ability to barter with others to survive as a community?
We have often maintained here at ANP that if a person or family that is as prepared as much as possible to the best of their ability, then there is nothing to fear, and in an emergency scenario, fear is perhaps the biggest enemy. Fear causes people to make horrid decisions, rushes them to act before thinking and frankly, affects the mental, emotional, and physical health.
Generally we have found the articles where we provide links to survival food items are appreciated by readers, with lovely emailed notes thanking us, but at this point, most our regular readers have stocked up even more than usual because of daily events, so we want to cover a few other aspects of survival.
(For those that haven't stocked up, resupplied or topped off food supplies and other basic necessities, links can be found here and here.)
STORING YOUR EMERGENCY FOOD SUPPLIES
For example, we all know that stocking up and canned goods along with emergency survival freeze dried foods, in bulk, but little things such as containers to store the extra portions for later use, are sometimes completely overlooked.
Gardening is something else we have been seeing spoken about, with some of our readers able to eat their own home grown fresh vegetables already. How many of our home gardeners have to look up directions for a specific fruit or that special vegetable, including perfect growing weather and conditions, soil requirements, watering time schedules, etc....?
In some SHTF scenarios, the internet may very well be something that takes a long time to come back, if it ever will, so having hard copies of specialized topic books could quite literally be the difference between continuing to eat or starving.
If you prefer the information you get on the internet, and have a printer and a lot of paper, get a binder, print out everything you think you might need and make your own book of directions.
Interestingly enough when we see emergency survival prepping pieces, we often see and talk of emergency freeze dried foods with long shelf-life, canned goods, and other food or food prep items, but unless you live somewhere where you can have open fire, (not a jammed packed city), sometimes we forget to address cooking the food itself, even if it is boiling the water for the freeze dried foods.
A wood stove would be handy of there was no electricity, yes? There are a wide variety out there, from very cheap in price, to a little more expensive to very expensive, all depending on your prepping budget. (Don't forget to have some wood ready, find more later, but have some for those initial first weeks.)
Then we have the little things, or little until you run into a situation where it makes a difference, such as the simple cooking utensils you use.
Use wooden utensils for cooking? Maybe there are some plastic or rubber-like utensils in your holder?
Those would be great for stop top cooking, even a wooden stove allows cooking on the top, but what about utensils that can handle an open fire, such as grilling utensils. People without outdoor BBQ grills often do not have grilling utensils.
Also think about a world without electric, and maybe something without the ability to have an unlimited water supply through your water utility company, so drinking water is a must, but so are paper products, from cups to paper plates, to plastic utensils to eat with.
Of course in a SHTF scenario, I doubt people are going call you rude for eating with your fingers.... hah!
Remember spices as well, as emergency survival food can be made to taste delicious with a little extra spice thrown in.
READERS PLEASE JUMP IN WITH SUGGESTIONS!
There are so many more areas needed to address that this will have to be done in parts, otherwise this piece would be excruciatingly long. Our readers are very good at filling in the blanks and helping each other out with tips, tricks, ideas, resources, links and videos.
We encourage all ANP readers to please, add your own "must-have" lists and/or items that absolutely have to be in your home to survive when SHTF.
