The excellent headline above comes from an email subject line sent this afternoon, highlighting a Canada Free Press article titled "Thanks to Fox, the Devil will now have his very own TV show," about the controversial new Fox channel series titled "Lucifer," with a description in their promotional trailer stating "Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, the original fallen angel, Lucifer Morningstar has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub. - Coming to Fox in 2016."
I say controversial because petitions have been started asking Fox to "exorcize “Lucifer” from its TV lineup," with the One Million Moms petition stating that the FOX series "will glorify Satan as a caring, likable person in human flesh.," already garnering over 16,500 signatures. Another petition from American Family Association has gathered over 128,000 signatures.
Both petitions state the following:
The program previews mischaracterize Satan, depart from true biblical teachings about him, and inaccurately portray the beliefs of the Christian faith.
By choosing to air this show, FOX is disrespecting Christianity and mocking the Bible.
While FOX has always been associated with a "conservative" lean, many on the right have noticed a discernable leftward turn over the last few years and the announcement and promotion of this new television series has many on the right wondering if the "Fox" has always been in the proverbial conservative hen house and is now, finally showing their true "infernal" colors by legitimizing the devil.
If Christian parents raised their kids to believe that the devil is evil incarnate, the Lib-Left/Entertainment Industry will now present him as a cool dude, a sort of 21st century Super Man who’s relocated from Hell to the City of Angels, where he’s merely looking for a break.
Children only get to hear of Lucifer from their parents reading to them from Scripture. Getting to see him on television, minus horns and warts, will make him much more acceptable.
Up to now, the devil hasn’t jumped out, clove-footed from the pages of the Bible at Scripture reading time, as he remains safely in the realm of the abstract. But Fox’s dapper ‘Lucifer’ can elicit their squeals of horror by gazing at them from the boob tube with frightful, technology-advanced red eyes.
Rerouting children back to the real thing is a loss when God already has been made irrelevant in a world where prayers are banned at school in deference to the sensibilities of those with allegiance to other religions, and where references to God are banned from valedictorian speeches at graduation.
After watching the trailer below, complete with a winged demon (shown in the image below the videos), the portrayal of Lucifer, the original fallen angel, as an empathic being that is looking for justice against wrongs committed, gives a clear example of why the petitions claiming that Fox is presenting a series that is glorifying the devil.... they are.
Many believe that music, television, video games and movies, pretty much all of the entertainment industry, has been the leading force in taking what has always been taboo, wrong, and immoral in the eyes of many, and creating an atmosphere where the lines between what parents teach their children and the contrasting direction "Hollywood" wants them to go, are severely blurred.
A perfect example of this comes from a statement by Neil Gaiman from the Sandman comics, who the Lucifer character is loosely based on when in response to the criticism against this series, stated on his Tumblr page"Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the “Concerned Mothers of America” announced that they were boycotting SANDMAN because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans Woman in a comic book…......I wonder if they noticed it didn’t work last time, either…"
Via Canada Free Press again, who states "To quote the last line in the trailer when the cute, gap-toothed little girl asks L. Morningstar “What’s your name?” and he answers: “Lucifer”, and she responds in awe, “Like the devil?” L. Morningstar gleefully says, “Exactly!”
Exactly.... perhaps Mr. Gaiman should have been cast as Lucifer, the fit is perfect.
