In late June 2016, a little over three-and-a-half years after LaPierre made that statement a man by the name of Jody Thompson pulled a gun in the Playoff nightclub in South Carolina, started firing into the crowd, shot three people and the fouth potential victim, who had a valid concealed weapons permit, pulled his own gun, and shot Thompson in the leg.
None of the victims' injuries were life threatening.
Thompson was arrested and has been charged with four counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
THE BOMBSHELL - MSM REFUSES TO REPORT THE TRUTH
One might think the news, coming less than a month after the Orlando massacre which killed 49 people, injured over 50 more, would have been blared across every newspaper, reported by every news outlet, but it wasn't, in fact a look at Google search shows only local channels and papers reported it as well as some blogs and alternative media.
That is the bombshell. The MSM refuses to report, inform their viewers/readers of the truth because it did not fit the official gun-grabbing, Obama White House narrative.
Here is the screen shot of a "news" search, five days later, after all mainstream media outlets had more than enough opportunity to report this story. Note, only the top result from "bearing Arms," which is not a mainstream source, is listed.
Doing a regular web search, without specifying news, shows that no mainstream source, ABC News, CBS News, Fox News (excluding local stations), New York Times, Washington Post, etc.... reported this "mass shooting" attempt that was stopped by a "good guy with a gun." If they did, then Google is hiding it from their search results.
Since the shooter was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, this goes to make the point many Second Amendment supporters have made time and again, criminals, those most likely to start shooting up a place, generally are not the ones that go through the legal process to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
This characterization of the incident as a "mass shooting in progress" stopped by a legally armed citizen with a carry permit is problematic, though, because accounts of the altercation don't indicate the gunman intended to kill multiple victims (or anyone at all).
Since the suspect was charged with "four counts of attempted murder," by authorities, that could be considered a direct, outright lie by the supposed fact-checking site.
In fact, their very next sentence directly contradicts that assertion when they write "According to Columbia, South Carolina, television station WIS, the suspect got into an argument with another club patron and afterwards pulled out a gun and started shooting towards a crowd gathered in front of the club, striking and injuring three people."
NEWSFLASH for Snopes by a Second Amendment supporter, since obviously the writer is unaware of it because they are gun control proponents... when someone pulls a gun and starts firing it at people, they intend to kill said people. Whther they are a good enough shot to do so, or not, is irrevelant to intent.
Snopes continues to attempt to split hairs, while contradicting themselves yet again with the next assertion:
However, this incident as described doesn't fit the template for a "mass shooting," which typically involves one or more gunmen deliberately setting out to indiscriminately kill multiple randomly-selected victims.
I refer them back to my "NEWSFLASH for Snopes" above. That is exactly what this shooter did.
Snopes continues:
The scenario described here apparently involved a hot-headed, irresponsible gun owner who pulled out a weapon in the heat of a dispute (not someone who brought a gun to a public place with the premeditated intent to shoot it up) and indiscriminately fired it towards a crowd, not necessarily with any intent to kill — or even injure — anyone.
First off, we note that Snopes neglects to address the fact that the "hot-head" was charged with "unlawful carrying of a weapon," and no mention of at all of whether the shooter legally owned his weapon or not. Again, they claim the shooter didn't have "any intent to kill - or even injure - anyone," despite the fact that he fired his weapon into a crowd of people!!!
SNOPES = FAIL
Why would Snopes attempt to so ham-handedly and blatantly lie and contradict themselves in their own fact-check article, well that is easily explained with a recent revelation that the main "fact-checker" for Snopes, Kim Lacapria, just happens to be a "vitriolic left-wing" gun grabbing liberal.
That same article points out the following about what Ms. Lacapria said about the Orlando shooter, Omar Mateen:
