When you drain the swamp, get ready for all sorts of strange creatures to appear. But watch out—some come out with teeth bared and claws extended, spitting and fighting while others, just as morbid, cower and slink away, looking for cover.
See how they scurry! See how they run!
Every day means a new revelation in the press and heinous deeds exposed. How the world has changed--wickedness in high places no longer hidden but now welcome fodder for jokes on daytime and nighttime talk shows.
But who exhibits shame? Not the perpetrators, who fight back with lies, accusations and law suits aimed at defaming their accusers. Who is shocked? Not the watching public, already jaded and conditioned by Hollywood to accept the duplicity and deviant sexual escapades of big-name offenders.
An influential producer named as a molester and sexual predator? A politician involved in cases of child trafficking? So what else is new! No shock when a private foundation is enriched by donations from foreign countries in a pay-for-play scheme--it’s just business as usual in slimy Swamptown.
Forty-something years ago, matters that are common in headlines today—sexual promiscuity, pornography, militant feminism, gay marriage, near-term abortion and human trafficking--were rarely spoken of, much less flaunted on TV or social media. Transgenderism was basically unheard of, and public nudity was a criminal act.
In fact, when David Wilkerson penned The Vision in 1973 warning about a coming epidemic of sexual assaults on children, the prophecy was hardly believable. He predicted a time when violence would be rampant, and angry mobs of men would erupt to molest innocent youth and children.
“I have seen things in my vision that make me fear for the future of our children,” Wilkerson said. “I speak of wild, roving mobs assaulting people and sodomizing children in parks, on the streets, and other public places.
“The attacks may not be publicized, but those in law enforcement circles will know the full extent of what is happening.”
Is this what is coming for America? As stormy protests around the country get out of hand and acts of violence become commonplace, will we even spare a thought for such reprehensible acts, or will they just be another headline in the daily news?
So much for 2008 and the transformation of America! By then, the change had already been in process since the Sixties with sexualized TV shows, X-rated movies and vicious rock and rap with dirty lyrics helping the country drift from its family-friendly roots to become a world downright dangerous for raising children.
So what can we say about America’s current moral condition? How far do you have to push God and ignore his mandates to become like brutish swamp creatures—in other words, to be given over to a depraved, animalistic mind?
“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools….” Romans 1:21
“Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts…Since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, He gave them up to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.” Romans 1:24, 28
What is a depraved mind, after all? In the website newsletter The Standard Bearer, Hoeksema Herman points out that the mind is man’s moral judgment, a means by which he is able to distinguish between good and evil.
“Not only does the mind distinguish, but also it is that faculty that counsels the will,” Herman explained. “We might say that the mind is our moral attorney, telling us what we should and shouldn’t do. This is the function of the mind.”
So when the Word of God speaks of a depraved or reprobate mind, it is talking about someone with no moral compass, so jaded and comfortable in dissipation and sin that he is unable to make sound judgments. Physically, he resembles man, but morally, he is still in the swamp, a slave to brutish appetites and animalistic instincts, more akin to a primeval beast.
When Michael Bresciani of BarbWire writes about depravity in America, he puts it in the simplest terms: “All that pertains to God, righteousness and morality is shunned in an atmosphere of self-indulgence and lawlessness”.
“Before reprobation sets in on a generation, people may be found acknowledging and repenting of their sins,” Bresciani noted. “But after reprobation begins to take root, they are found affirming and celebrating their sins.”
That this is happening today is further confirmation that this nation is being given over to a Godless mindset, according to Don Koenig, founder of ThePropheticYears website. He maintains that the list of indicators showing America is becoming a nation of reprobate minds is “almost as endless as our news headlines.”
Koenig has composed a list of 50 questions that has been called a “litmus test” of the American mindset, including why almost everything on TV is about sex, violence, and the abnormal.
“Why is porn half the Internet traffic that is not marked as spam? Why does America have the highest incarceration rate in the world? Why do Americans use illegal and legal mind-altering drugs more than any other nation on Earth?”
But the real question to be answered is if once a country is on the road to destruction, is there is any turning back? How can a nation survive God’s wrath when the swampish majority have been given over to a reprobate mind?
The answer lies in God’s dealings in the Old Testament when he judged rebellious nations for their sins, always allowing for a remnant of believers to be saved from destruction.
Take, for example, sinful cities like Jericho and Sodom and Gomorrah, where God provided a way of escape from destruction for the believing few. Because of Abraham’s intercession, Lot’s family was led out of Sodom and in Jericho, God spared the family of Rahab, who believed in his divine intervention.
These cases of biblical rescue give Christians reason for their “blessed hope”----expectation of deliverance from the earth’s end-time judgment predicted in the book of Revelation. They look forward to escaping the violence of worldwide wars, famines, earthquakes and persecution by means of a divine lifeline known as the Rapture, a controversial subject even among Christians as heard in the only video below featuring Pastor David Lankford and Steve Quayle.
The Rapture is defined as a “catching away” of believers by Christ, who takes them up into the heavens, leaving behind all unbelievers, scoffers, evil doers and other haters of righteousness.
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” I Thessalonians 4:16,17
Scoffers may ask, do Christians really believe they will be saved from a worldwide war by being air-lifted into space? To the uninitiated, the scenario sounds like something out of a science fiction novel.
But just this last week an article on Fox News was asking, “Is the Rapture finally here?” The writer quoted Christian numerologist David Meade who maintains that the sun, moon and stars are lining up to make a heavenly “time marker,” suggesting that the Rapture is near.
If that event should happen soon, scoffers will be mystified by a sudden disappearance of Christians. In the twinkling of an eye, the earth is emptied of believing family, friends, pastors and other faithful souls whose prayers have served to stave off God’s coming judgment.
But now that the deplorables once sneered at are gone, no one will be left on planet earth—no one, that is, except the depraved.
Left behind are all unrepentants, unbelievers, evil doers, liars, hypocrites—in other words, all the smarmy swamp denizens. How awestruck they will be, unable to voice their dismay!
An end-time prayer in the book of Psalms captures the astonishment felt by the landlocked when they are left to face life on a planet barren of Christian salt and light.
“Help, Lord, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with deception….The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.” Psalm 12:1,2,8
