While we have seen Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin's UNGA speeches and have compared and contrasted them, pointing out that Putin publicly highlighted how the U.S. helped created ISIS, what many missed because the majority of the mainstream buried the lead, is that the Obama administration's "linchpin of the strategy to deat ISIS," at the cost of $500 million "has proved to be a fiasco," and an "embarrassing failure."
Hats off to NewsBusters for spotlighting the fact that "ABC, CBS, and NBC all covered on Monday night the developments at the United Nations (U.N.) and the meeting between President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin, it was ABC’s World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News that failed to go the distance and report that Obama’s disastrous rebel training initiative in Syria had been suspended."
Tens of thousands of militants are fighting under the banners of the so-called Islamic State. Its ranks include former Iraqi servicemen who were thrown out into the street after the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Many recruits also come from Libya, a country whose statehood was destroyed as a result of a gross violation of the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1973. And now, the ranks of radicals are being joined by the members of the so-called moderate Syrian opposition supported by the Western countries.
In contrast, the CBS Evening News not only covered the announcement from the Pentagon but led the newscast with the story before turning to the scene at the U.N. Anchor Scott Pelley declared in the opening tease that “the U.S. shuts down it’s effort to train Syrian opposition forces, acknowledging an embarrassing failure.”
Pelley remained blunt in the introduction to Pentagon correspondent David Martin’s segment, highlighting how the icy encounters between Obama and Putin came “on the same day that the Pentagon was forced to concede that a key part of the President's Syria policy is a dismal failure.”
Martin used similar language as the CBS anchor, reporting that “[t]he $500 million program had once been a linchpin of the strategy to defeat ISIS, but so far, it has proved a fiasco.” He explained that the reason for the suspension came following the revelation that “a band of fighters turned over their U.S.-supplied equipment to terrorists linked to al-Qaeda.”
Before playing a soundbite from Putin, Martin added how it was “an embarrassing development Russia's Putin could not resist mentioning in his address to the United Nations.”
Martin went to report that Putin outmaneuvered the U.S. on Monday by announcing a multi-state coalition of his own to fight the Islamic State by propping up Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.
On September 10, 2014, Barack Obama gave a speech, seen below, where he refers to ISIS as "al-Qaeda affiliates," and at approximately the 6:30 minute mark he states clearly and proudly that the U.S. has "ramped up military assistance to the Syrian opposition," aka Syrian rebels, the very same group that just handed over supplies provided by the U.S. to al-Qaeda.
Also note at the 5:40 minute mark Obama claims that the "core principle" of his presidency is "if you threaten America you will find no safe haven."
Yet Obama has just increased the amount of Syrian refugees, with ISIS terrorists having infiltrated them, that will be resettled in America, thereby offering them safe haven.
This cannot all be attributed to "bad judgment" or "mistakes" or even incomptence..... no one can be that incompetent. I submit this is all been done by design.
