Let me begin by making a couple of things clear at the outset. I am not a fan of Rap music, therefore I never paid much attention to Rap stars or celebrities. I am more a classic Rock fan, so sue me! Secondly, just because Kanye West is awakening a whole generation to the thought that they don't have to "belong" to one party or the other, they are not "victims" just because they were born a certain race, does not make him a conservative. He is not.
On the flip side, his recent foray into politics by announcing he was free to "think" for himself, thank you very much, and everyone else should be just as free, and the massive attacks against him by celebrities, other black musicians, liberals, and now a direct attack by Democratic politician Maxine Waters, shows pretty conclusively that he is not a full-fledged liberal either, he is more like an Independent, speaking up and out about issues, rather than allowing any party to force him to follow the party line.
With all that said, kudos must be given to Kanye for opening up a national discussion, in a huge way, ever since he uttered the "seven words that broke the Internet," when he he praised conservative Director of TPUSA Candace Owens, by saying "I love the way Candace Owens thinks."
MAXINE WATERS: KANYE "TALKS OUT OF TURN" - "NEEDS ASSISTANCE" THINKING
While liberals, Democratic politicians, and others are having an absolute temper tantrum that Kanye has said things supportive of President Trump, the real offense that has outraged them all, is that he has continued to insist that everyone has the right to think for themselves, they don't have to stay in their "mental prisons," no one has the right to tell them what to think, how to think, what to say, how to say it or what "party" they have to belong to in order to fit in. All this and more can be found on his Twitter timeline.
How do we know he is being heard, that his younger fans are listening, learning, paying attention and taking his words to heart? He shares the messages they send him, like the one shared last night which said "I have been reading your tweets and seen your interviews: you are opening the eyes of the people of the world. Kids at school are talking about you in such a respectful way. We all have been slaves of something, scared of something, addicted from something. You are helping us to be free...."
That right there is why Democrats are petrified of Kanye and why he is being attacked, or as he states "demonized."
Don't think for one second Democratic politicians aren't paying attention, because they are. Over 80 percent of African Americans automatically vote for Democrats, with 88 percent in the 2016 presidential election having voted for Hillary Clinton, and Kanye, using his celebrity status is challenging that, without even bringing actual politics into the discussion, he is doing it by preaching "love" and "free thought," new ideas.... basically challenging the status quo.
Evidence of how closely Democrats are paying attention and terrified of his message, comes from Maxine Waters, a Democratic politician ranked as "one of the nation’s “most corrupt” members of congress by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington," as highlighted by The Daily Caller.
“Kanye West is a very creative young man who has presented some of the most revolutionary material in the African-American community. But we also think that sometimes Kanye West talks out of turn and perhaps sometimes he needs some assistance in helping him to formulate some of his thoughts.
We don’t think that he actually means to do harm, but we’re not sure he really understands the impact of what he’s saying, at the time that he’s saying it and how that weighs on, particularly the African American community — and for young people in general. And I think maybe he should think twice about politics, and maybe not have so much to say.”
Think about that for a second...... Waters is basically telling Kanye to sit down, shut up and get his butt back to the Democratic plantation. Not only that, but think about the contrast of what he is saying, compared to what she is saying. He is telling people to think freely for themselves and she is saying he needs assistance in thinking? Why? Because he is not thinking the way she wants him to think.
Just wow.
I also vehemently disagree with Auntie Maxine, Kanye understands exactly what he is doing, and other than creating controversy before the release of his new album(s), he is deliberately doing it now and specifically targeting the African American community because he is tired of seeing the black community being "controlled" by the media and the Democratic party.
While not responding directly to Waters by name, his most recent statements certainly fit as a response, so he most probably was told or saw her comments.
Last night, after Waters comments were published by multiple outlets, he tweeted up a storm, including a quote by Harriet Tubman, a woman born into slavery, who escaped, and then conducted over a dozen missions to free other enslaved individuals.
I freed a thousand slaves I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves. - Harriet Tubman
West also pointed out "once again I am being attacked for presenting new ideas." Other random comments from Monday evening include: "we are programmed to always talk and fight race issues. We need to update our conversation," and "They cut out our tongues so we couldn't communicate to each other. I will not allow my tongue to be cut."
RESPONDING TO MEDIA ATTACKS
In his recent TMZ interview, West had some scathing comments about the MSM, saying "When they refer to fake news because it can be skewed and stuff, it is like the media and the liberals and the echo chamber and all that is having the most sore loss of all time." He refers to their constant attacks on President Trump by stating "It’s like torture porn. We are going to keep showing you negative, negative, negative, negative, negative, when — these are human beings."
He said that his recent flood of free-speech was a result of feeling “connected with the universe.”
“Don’t try to ‘whacko-Jacko’ me for saying that, because that’s what the media is trying to do, they’re attacking me with these smoke screens that I am not going to fall for,” West said.
West took to Twitter on Tuesday to tweet a segment from his TMZ interview in which he declared how we will no longer be “controlled by the media.”
The media has worked overtime trying to "label" West as an "alt-right" hero, to demonize him, to try associate him with conservatives and alt-right, with headlines like "How Kanye West Became a Far-Right Media Hero," and "A step-by-step guide to how Kanye West became a hero of the pro-Trump Internet," and other such nonsense, proving once again that the liberal media should ask those of us writing about Kanye about our opinions before spewing nonsense and proving they didn't even bother to do rudimentary interviews or research.
Most of us that self-identify as conservative and have written about this whole Kayne West saga are doing so because he is starting a national debate, one that is long overdue, and we are doing so knowing full well that if we sat down with West to discuss issues, we would most likely disagree with as much of his ideology as we agree with.
What we wouldn't do, is claim he has no right to his opinions and point of view, unlike the mainstream media, Maxine Waters, and the never-ending line of "celebrities" that are telling him to sit down and shut up unless he is willing to preach the official liberal narrative.
Kanye West is no hero, but he is a very popular black rap star with a significant fan base from the African American community, who is trying to wake them up, asking them to think for themselves, to look around at what helps the community, and what has not helped, like the policies of those they have been blindly following, saying they have been "mentally enslaved."
BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS AND OPENING A NATIONAL DEBATE
PJ Media highlights a recent interview, where Kanye had some choice words about Barack Obama, but within their article they point out how West is breaking through certain barriers, including the "guilty by association culture."
Perhaps unknowingly, West was describing the "guilty by association culture" that has overtaken everything. It has infected every social and political circle from SJWs to National Review Never Trumpers who want people to strongly disavow anyone who has thoughts that don't line up perfectly with their own. You have all been told you can't listen to white nationalists speak or you will be painted as a white nationalist and tainted by the association. You have been told you cannot listen to Black Lives Matter or agree on some issues but not others without being negatively associated with an unpopular movement. You have been told that if you love Hillary you must hate Trump and all his deplorable supporters. It's all or nothing lately.
West rejects that philosophy and has made a point to retweet those he agrees with when they say things he likes, whether they're BLM or Thomas Sowell... and he's breaking through barriers most of us thought couldn't be broken. To anyone who is really listening, Kanye West is reminding us what it means to live in a free society where all speech matters.
As Ben Shapiro writes over at Townhall "Now, none of this means that West should suddenly be considered for leadership of The Heritage Foundation. But it does mark a break in the solid leftist wall of Hollywood and the music industry, and in the intersectional coalition."
Bingo. By breaking that solid leftist wall, West has riled up everyone on the liberal left, to the point where an LA rapper has issued a "Crip alert," calling on local gang members to physically attack West:
It was filmed by Daz Dillinger, former member of Tha Dogg Pound duo.
“Yo national alert, all the Crips out there, y’all f–k Kanye up,” he said in the since-deleted clip, referring to the infamous street gang.
“Better not ever see you in concert,” the rapper added. “Better not ever see you around the LBC. Better not ever see you around California.”
Mentioning the city where West lives, Dillinger said: “Stay in Calabasas, ya hear me? ‘Cuz we got a Crip alert for Kanye…All the Crips out there — you see him, bang on his ass, f–k his ass up. ”
The lines are clearly being drawn within the black community with anyone standing up for West or daring to agree with him being attacked relentlessly until they withdraw their support, which is what happened with Chance the Rapper, yet West continues to double down on his messaging, refusing to attack them back, yet arguing his point of view and that he has a right to that point of view.
This could be a very important moment in time, a turning point if other prominent members of the black community stand up, speak out and not let the "mob" determine what is acceptable to think and believe. More importantly, to tell their fans they don't have to be Democrats or Republicans, they have the right to choose for themselves and do what is best for them.
We see a lot of claims that the attacks against West are because he spoke in support of President Trump, but make no mistake, that is just the excuse and justification they are using. The real reason West is being attacked is because he wants the black community to think for themselves.
To people like Maxine Waters.... that is unacceptable because they may decide those they have been supporting, the Democrats, have not done all that much for them.
NOTE TO READERS: With digital media revenue spiraling downward, especially hitting those in Independent Media, where attacks from every direction continue to come unabated, it has become apparent that traditional advertising simply isn't going to fully cover the costs and expenses for many smaller independent websites.
