Who Didn't Understand This Would Happen? Cities That 'Defunded' The Police See Extreme Spikes In Crime And Now Begging For Outside Help And More Money

By Susan Duclos - All News PipeLine

Anyone with even half a braincell still working understood what a bad idea the "defund the police" movement was following the death of George Floyd while being arrested, but the immediate effect was felt in 2020, and continued shortages of police officers after an exodus of law enforcement sick and tired of being demonized for the actions of others, along with less funds to keep cities safe, has brought undeniable proof of the sheer stupidity of wanting a nation with no capability to enforce the law.

Radically liberal Democrat politicians called for the defunding of police, along with calls to "abolish" the police.

Even Democrats not quite as radical as the "Squad" of freshman Representatives understood what a horrible idea it was.

Yet, the most radical of them are still calling for the end of "policing, incarceration, and militarization."

IMMEDIATE EFFECTS OF THE 'DEFUND THE POLICE' MOVEMENT

The drive to "defund the police," included at least 10 cities, including Minneapolis, Seattle, New York City, Chicago, Portland, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington D.C.

The immediate effects were chilling as numbers in 2020, when the screams and howls of "defund the police" were the loudest as comparisons from the year before (2019) showed a massive spike in crime.

We'll go through some of the immediate effects of a few of those cities, so we can move along, and the rest of the numbers can be found here.

Minneapolis: The Minneapolis City Council approved cutting $10 million from the police budget in 2020, with the Minneapolis City Council stating "“[Dismantling the police] is one step in a direction to create safety for every single resident of our city”

The Immediate Effect (2020): 60% more homicides in 2020 than in 2019.

Seattle: Seattle city council approved cutting $76 million out of the 2021 budget for the police. Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, when responding to criticisms over protesters taking over six blocks to create an "autonomous zone," said "In police-free zones, we could have a summer of love."

She changed her mind after multiple shootings, some fatal, occurred in the autonomous zone.

"I support peaceful demonstrations. Black Lives Matter…but enough is enough," said Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best in a statement. "The CHOP has become lawless and brutal. Four shootings—two fatal—robberies, assaults, violence, and countless property crimes have occurred in this several block area."

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that an area, taken over by protesters, where police had to abandon the only precinct within that area, was going to become "lawless."

The Immediate Effect: In 2020, 525% crime increase compared to the same month in 2019.

New York City: New York City officials agreed on a budget that shifted roughly $1 billion from the police department, but advocates and lawmakers say the change doesn't go far enough. NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio stated at the time, " “We think defunding police is the right thing to do.”

There was a 130% increase in shootings in 2020, compared to 2019.

Portland: The Portland City Council cut $15 million from its police budget. Portland City Council stated "“Defunding the police is a victory. We're not done.”

Violent shootings rose 240% from the year before. We also have documented the extreme violence Antifa commits in Portland regularly, without penalty.

Atlanta: Atlanta  cut their city's corrections budget by 60% by converting the Atlanta city jail into a "center of equity, health, and wellness." Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms stated "“We’ve been defunding the police for the last few years.”

At the time that Secure America Now published the data in 2020, there had been 86% spike in murders relative to the year before.

Washington DC: The D.C. Council's Committee unanimously approved a plan to defund the police department budget by more than $15 million.

"There are too many people still stuck in the old ways of a law-and-order kind of approach," said D.C. Council Member David Grosso

Homicide was 23% higher than where the city was at that time in 2019.

Minneapolis BLM/Antifa riots destroy businesses

MINNEAPOLIS, THE POSTER CHILD FOR A SPECTACULAR FAIL

Protests and rioters damaged, looted and destroyed more than a hundred business (list here) as crime skyrocketed when police, demonized by state leaders, protesters and rioters and national Democrat politicians, started leaving in droves.

Now a report, dated May 23, 2021, offers a lesson in why the defund the police movement was always going to fail spectacularly.

Minneapolis police are bringing in outside help as they try to temper weekend violence that killed a least four people, including a college senior who was out celebrating graduation.

Mayor Jacob Frey, speaking a day after a mass shooting downtown, said the city has asked state and federal agencies for assistance, as Minneapolis police face a shortage of officers.

"Safety in our city has to be a priority," Frey said Sunday, calling the reinforcements "really, really critical."

The weekend's victims included two men believed to have been struck by gunfire on the North Side, a suspected gunman in the mass shooting downtown that injured eight, and the college student whose family described as "an innocent bystander."

BOTTOM LINE - CAUSE AND EFFECT

One doesn't have to have a Mensa IQ to see the correlation between the spiking crime, the shortage of police, and radical liberals, along with nation Democrat politicians demonizing and cutting funds from law enforcement.

It is cause and effect and the fact that so many liberals called for the abolishment or defunding of police, and many are still doing so despite the spikes in crime and lawlessness, indicates some type of mental handicap on the part of those that didn't see this coming from a mile away.
