Artificial Intelligence Is Taking Over The World - Anyone That Has Seen How Possible A 'Terminator' Scenario Is, Should Be Finding Ways To Limit The Ways AI Can Mess With Them

By Susan Duclos -  All News Pipeline

So, the Democrat convention is getting ready to start, with protesters already causing chaos, and let us not forget the endless entertainment of their insane platform, and kooky, word salad candidate, Kamala Harris or the stolen valor guy, Tim Walz aka "tampon Tim" she chose as her VP choice, so we will all getting the popcorn ready to point and laugh at the insanity, while writing about the end of the Republic as we know it if Commie-ala manages to 1) stay the Democrat candidate, and; 2) wins in November.

In the meantime though, I want to write about something else...so I am going to. So there!

Before doing so though, I do want to mention a quote from J.D. Vance that is absolutely spot on, and then we will move along to bots, how one knows if they have been talking to a bot but thought they were a real person and some of the dangers of Artificial Intelligence.

J.D. Vance, quote of the weekend: "Giving Kamala Harris control over inflation policy is like giving Jeffrey Epstein control over human trafficking policy."

HA!

Now, for the topic of this article..

ARTIFICAL INTELLIGENCE IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD.......

Does that sound overly dramatic? Maybe, but by the end of this piece, everyone should understand why I am making that assertion.

We'll start with the most recent and move on from there.

Chat Bots: Evidently people have been 'speaking" with chat bots without knowing they are are not real human beings, which in and of itself is a little creepy. I know this because there are articles out there on how to know if you have been talking to a bot without being aware of it.

LIFEHACKER just published a a piece in August 2024 titled "How to Tell If You’re Chatting With a Bot," with the sub-heading of "You may have spoken with a conversational AI bot and not even known it. Here’s how to tell (for now)."

For now because Artificial Intelligence bots and programs are supposed to "learn" as they interact with actual human beings, so they sort of evolve, for lack of a better term.

The signs to look for and suggestions include; Watch out for weird word choices, Look for repetition, Pay attention to vague answers, Note the response speed, Are they always available?, Is the other "person" a little too enthusiastic?, They make the wrong mistakes, and Pull a “Crazy Ivan” (Do something unexpected to disrupt their program).

It is really worth the read, especially if you have doubts about "someone" you have been interacting with online.

Next we have AI's that are writing articles, being used to write arguments for court (someone got caught!), enhancing academic writing and research,  eventually taking more than 300 million jobs from human beings (pay for the technology once and never have to pay humans a paycheck again), online sex bots, psychopath bots, autonomous killing AI machines, and basically "rewriting the internet."

Serious question here for readers: Other than ANP and some other Independent Media outlets that tell readers straight out they are not using bots for any part of the text of their articles (images are a different thing), how do you know what you are reading on a news outlet is truly being written by a human?

Any idea which news websites us AI, not always to write articles, but to research them or edit them?

Let's take a look below at what I found, using the Bing search engine, which by the way, like most search engine uses a bit of AI technology, and algorithms.

My point there is even those of us that do not use AI for writing articles, are being forced to use AI for research, otherwise many of us cannot find the verifying links ot prove our assertions.

I told you, AI is taking over the world.

NEWS THAT USES AI......

Big names like The Associated Press, MSN, CNET, BuzzFeed, and The Next Web, all use AI for one purpose or another, for more than just search.

For the Associated press it was for "automatically generating summaries of earnings reports," in the beginning.

A year later, AP said the system was producing around 3,000 of these stories every quarter — a tenfold increase over what AP reporters and editors created previously.

MSN took it a step further, and were taught a harsh lesson:

In 2020, Microsoft announced that it was replacing pesky humans in its news division with shiny AI. The workers had been curating and editing stories for the homepages of MSN and the Edge browser. The Cupertino company sacked the journalists despite warnings that substituting them for software was risky.

The warnings proved prescient: MSN went on to run a range of bogus stories. Highlights included Bigfoot sightings, Mermaid captures, and Grimes suing Elon Musk.

Before moving along, let us address a hilarious problem regarding AI. They hallucinate, "in which an AI system makes up facts."

Oooops?

Another site that had to learn the hard way, but didn't let it stop them was CNET, who were caught posting machine written stories, then after being busted, admitted it.

CNET described the initiative as a mere experiment. And like many experiments, the results were unpredictable.

The text generators were making “very dumb errors,” according to Futurism. CNET was forced to add lengthy corrections to some of the articles.

Next up, BuzzFeed who uses "AI to enhance its quizzes and personalize some content."

The last in this first article I found, is the same site that described these issues.....hahaha!

Much to my chagrin, even your favourite tech site has dabbled in AI-generated content. Most famously, our erstwhile colleague Satoshi Nakaboto produced automated reports on cryptocurrencies. Mercifully, the loathsome Nakaboto was laid off years ago.

More recently, AI has been producing images for the superlative TNW newsletter. Undoubtedly, this is a far more fitting role for automated media — but then, I would say that.

That list seemed a bit small, so back to the search engine I went, and found an article titled "Researchers compare AI policies and guidelines at 52 news organizations around the world."

Some of the key data they found, below:

• Nearly 70% of the AI documents were designed for editorial staff, while most of the rest applied to an entire organization. This would include the business side, which might use AI for advertising or hiring purposes. One policy only applied to the business side.

• And 69% mentioned AI pitfalls, such as “hallucinations,” the authors write, in which an AI system makes up facts.

Quick break from the list to laugh heartily as they understand the risks and pitfalls, yet still use it. maybe those decision makes should be replaced, and ironically if they were replaced it would likely be with AI.

• Some 44% allow journalists to use AI to gather information and develop story ideas, angles and outlines. Another 4% disallow this use, while half do not specify.

Another break from the list to note that if they use AI to gather information, they are doing nothing more than Alternative Media does, so why do they think they are any better at reporting and frankly, why are news organization paying them?

• Meanwhile, 42% allow journalists to use AI to alter editorial content, such as editing and updating stories, while 6% disallow this use and half do not specify.

Alter editorial content, not caring about AI's habit of "hallucinating?

BOTTOM LINE.....

While I see no issue with AI generated images to "represent" what a writer is writing about, because every once in a while it is nearly impossible to find the perfect image, as long as said writers are not trying to misrepresent anything, it is harmless.

Search engines have been using AI for far longer than news organizations, and we have all seen how easy it is for Google, or any other search engine, to manipulate the results.

For example: When I first started writing, any site that provided the closest content to what I wanted and the most read content about any topic came up on the front page, and now, big tech has changed that to find only "MSM" sources and if you want to find more accurate results you have to go through the first few pages of results, and sometimes many more.

That is manipulation right there, forcing people to see news big tech prefers before news they are actually looking at.

I will say it again, AI is taking over the world, and anyone that has seen how possible a "Terminator" scenario is, should be finding ways to limit the way AI can mess with them.
