President Trump Celebrates America’s New Golden Age On Presidents’ Day, George Washington's Birthday, And More

By S.E. Gunn, PhDAll News Pipeline

On February 16, 2026, the White House published the article President Trump Celebrates America’s New Golden Age on Presidents’ Day. President Washington, himself, never paid much attention to his birthday, usually responding to letters or attending matters at Mount Vernon. But, the Nation decided the birthday of our first President was worth celebrating and began to do so before his death in 1799.

The 45th Congress passed S623 on January 29, 1878 to amend Section 993 of the Revised Statutes of the United States for the District of Columbia so as to make the 22nd of February a holiday within said District to honor our Nation's first President.

In 1896, it became a tradition to read Washington's Farewell Address in the US Senate by a current member on the 22nd of February. In 1951, "President's Day" was proposed instead of Washington's Birthday; but Congress did not vote to change the name.

On June 28, 1968, Congress passed PL 90-363, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act to provide uniform annual observances of certain legal public holidays on Mondays officially setting the following celebrations:

  • New Year's Day, January 1
  • Washington's Birthday, 3rd Monday in February
  • Memorial Day, last Monday in May
  • Independence Day, July 4
  • Labor Day, 1st Monday in September
  • Columbus Day, 2nd Monday in October
  • Veterans Day, 4th Monday in October
  • Thanksgiving day, 4th Thursday in November
  • Christmas Day, December 25

While it may seem like the Nation has forgotten the actual name of this holiday is Washington's Birthday, calling it "Presidents Day" as a day to celebrate all presidents, some states, like Florida, Illinois, Iowa, New York and Virginia officially recognize George Washington Day. In addition, the state of Virginia celebrates George Washington Day the entire month of February and the city of Laredo, Texas has celebrated George Washington the entire month of February since 1898. Georgia, Massachusetts, and Virginia also issue special proclamations for George Washington's Birthday.

It was actually businesses and corporations who made the term "Presidents' Day" popular nationwide through advertising sales. There has been no official changing of the name.

Now you know there's no such "official" holiday as President's Day it is still George Washington's Birthday and it is no longer celebrated not on his actual birthday (February 22) but on the 3rd Monday of February.

This year, President Trump has chosen to honor this day celebrating his own presidential successes reached in the first year of his second term. He celebrates that prices and inflation are down, the stock market is up, our military is strong, law enforcement is keeping communities safe, our southern border is secure, and crime is at record lows, and deportations continue at a record pace.

Perhaps someone in Congress should submit a bill to rename George Washington's Birthday to Presidents' Day since that is what the Nation calls this day. Please enjoy this AI generated celebration of all the US Presidents:

President Trump's Presidential Actions published in the Federal Register (FR) to date:

  • 240 Executive Orders
  • 126 Proclamations
  • 105 Presidential Orders, Memoranda, Determinations, Permits, and Notices

On February 17, 2026, the FR published the EO 14386 Strengthening United States National Defense with America’s Beautiful Clean Coal Power Generation Fleet signed February 11, 2026 (discussed in my February 12, 2026 ANP Article).

On February 16, 2026, President Trump signed the Proclamation President George Washington’s Birthday, 2026 celebrating the anniversary of George's 294th birthday. George is considered to be the Father of Our Country, our foremost American Hero, a champion of American Liberty, and the face of the American Revolution.

George Washington was Patriot of the Day in my ANP Article on February 10, 2026 and his wife, Martha was Patriot of the Day in my November 26, 2025 ANP Article. George served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the French and Indian War (1754) then went on to serve in the Virginia House of Burgesses. He created the Continental Army by assembling farmers, frontiersmen, blacksmiths, and merchants to the cause of Liberty. He led the troops to victory at Yorktown over the British Army and their Hessian allies.

George did not flail in his dedication to winning the Revolutionary War, no matter what the odds. Going so far to cross the frozen Delaware River during Christmas in 1776, leading his men, barefoot and bloody, to victory at Trenton. He met the Whiskey Rebellion with law and order yielding our Constitution with confidence and strength.

Although George wanted to retire after the war, his desire to serve the new Country saw him presiding over the Constitutional Convention. In 1789, he was unanimously elected as our first President. He served two terms before deciding he was done, leaving the Presidency for the next leader to rise, setting a precedent for a maximum 2-term presidency, which was later codified in the 22nd Amendment (discussed in my November 13, 2025 ANP Article). George died in 1799. President Trump writes:

Driven by his relentless tenacity until his very last breath, Washington was a champion of American sovereignty, a brilliant unifier and tactician, and a man of devout faith and incorruptible conscience — and his visionary leadership remains forever imprinted on the soul of our Nation.

Following President Washington’s death in December of 1799, the great Henry Lee declared that Washington was “first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.”  To this very day, he remains the first in our hearts and souls — and his courage and resolve remain the birthright of every American citizen.  As we pay tribute to our first Commander in Chief and set our eyes toward our next 250 years of liberty, we pledge to build a future that honors his legacy, cherishes his wisdom, and restores America as one glorious Nation under God.

It is therefore fitting that as we celebrate what would have been his 294th birthday — and as we commemorate 250 years of American freedom and independence — we pause to offer our gratitude for President Washington’s gallant life of public service.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim February 16, 2026, as a reserved holiday commemorating President George Washington’s Birthday.
