‘We Are At War!’: Dem Rep Melts Down During Elon Musk Protest, Demands To ‘Shut Down’ Senate
By Hailey Gomez (DCNF) - All News Pipeline
Democratic New Jersey Rep. LaMonica McIver was seen melting down Tuesday, demanding that the Senate be “shut down” as she protested Elon Musk and his involvement in the Trump administration.
Protesters gathered Tuesday evening outside the Department of Treasury building, with Democratic lawmakers telling supporters to fight back against Musk’s alleged “hostile takeover” of federal financial systems. During the event, McIver said her “simple message” is to tell Musk and President Donald Trump that she and others will “not take this shit” from them.

“We want you to know, as mentioned, we came here for an oversight visit in this building behind us, and they told us that we had to have an appointment for an oversight visit,” McIver said. “So let’s let them know loud and clear to let us in. Let us in!”
“Donald Trump thinks that he is a dictator, but we are going to prove him wrong. I came here to Congress in September, and I want Donald Trump to know that this Jersey girl means business,” McIver added. “We will not stand for this. We will fight back.”
Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon and Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts sent a letter Tuesday to Government Accountability Office head Gene Dodaro, asking the agency to investigate reports of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent granting Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency employees access to the “federal government’s payment systems.”
On Jan. 31, Musk posted on X that the governmental efficiency team had “discovered, among other things, that payment approval officers at Treasury were instructed always to approve payments, even to known fraudulent or terrorist groups.”
Since Musk and Trump announced the end of the United States Agency for International Development on Monday, Democrats have pushed back against Musk’s involvement in the administration. This is despite reports of billions of taxpayer dollars getting wasted. Chants of “Elon Musk has got to go!” were heard at the protest. McIver said supporters should “mobilize” and call congressional lawmakers to “fight back.”
“Someone told us that Republicans had their phones off the hook so they wouldn’t take your calls about what’s going on here. Boo to that! I tell you that when we leave here, we need to organize and mobilize and tell people to call every elected official of Congress and let them know, especially the Republicans, that we will not take this. We will fight back,” McIver said.
“As I close out, because I know we’ve been out here for a long time, and, goddammit, shut down the Senate! We are at war! Anytime a person can pay $250 million into a campaign and be given access, full access to the Department of Treasury of the United States of America, we are at war!” McIver yelled.
In a statement released Tuesday, the U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a letter to lawmakers regarding the payment systems, stating department staff members are working with Treasury employee Tom Krause to review “read-only access to the coded data of the Fiscal Service’s payment systems in order to continue this operational efficiency assessment.” The letter additionally said that the fiscal service “has not caused payments for obligations such as Social Security and Medicare to be delayed or re-routed.”
“Mr. Krause is conducting this effort in coordination with veteran career Treasury officials, and all operational processes continue to be conducted only by career Treasury staff in accordance with all standard security, safety, and privacy standards,” the letter said. “Treasury will continue its efforts to promote efficiency and effectiveness in its operations, and to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse.”
