Steve Caudle, the far-left pastor of the Greater Second Missionary Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, argued on Sunday that violence is justified against Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk for cutting wasteful government spending.
Caudle suggested that Musk had acted so ugly that Americans have no other choice than to incite violence to retaliate against the DOGE heads dismantlement of the U.S. Agency of International Development (USAID), an agency that handed $2 million to Guatemala in order to fund sex change operations and sent over 60 million condoms overseas.
Im worried were on the verge of bloodshed, Caudle said. This is an attempt to take us back to a day where we dont want to go and will not go. Therefore there will be conflict, I pray that the peace of God will win out and overcome the madness that is attempting to take over this nation. And I will say to you beloved that no one likes violence, but sometimes violence is necessary. When Elon Musk forces his way into the United States Treasury and threatens to steal your personal information and your Social Security check, there is a possibility of violence. Sometimes the devil will act so ugly, that you have no other choice but to get violent and fight. Well someone say well Reverend, you shouldnt be talking about violence. This is the Christian thing to do. Well I will say, why not talk this way because Jesus did?
USAID planned in August 2024 to spend $1.5 billion in Latin America and the Caribbean on LGBTQ causes, spent $17 billion on foreign aid to Ukraine and sent 65.5 million condoms, over 9 million injectable birth control products and over 300,000 IUDs abroad in fiscal year 2022.
The pastor has made blatantly left-wing and political statements in his sermons, particularly attacking Trump and his supporters.
The day before Trump entered office, Caudle said during his sermon that he felt a sense of dread and anxiety, and suggested that more school shootings would occur during the now-presidents second term. He further argued that perhaps Trump would decide to annex Mexico along with making Canada and Greenland territories of the U.S.
The pastor further said that a true Christian cannot support Trump or claim to be the people of God over the violence that took place at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and accused the white church of being complicit in racism. Caudle said during the same sermon that these Christians are a danger to racial minorities for supporting Trump.
How can Christians vote for and blindly support a president who has told over 20,000 lies while in office? the pastor said. And who inspired a violent attack on the nations Capitol that seriously injured 125 police officers and killed six people. How can you do these things and claim to be the people of God? If there has been any benefit to the Donald Trump experience in America, it is that his very presence in the Oval Office has exposed the racial bigotry and hypocrisy of the white evangelical church. If God were your father, how can you traffic in this kind of hypocrisy?
Following the death of George Floyd, Caudle lamented in June 2020 how some Christians opposed the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and accused them of being unaware that Americas alleged great sin is systemic racism. BLM activists violently took to the streets in response to Floyds death by injuring and killing police officers as well as looting local shops and restaurants.
For instance, I discovered that many Christians are unaware that there is a need for the Black Lives Matter movement and that many of them are offended by it, Caudle said. They push back against the movement by making the disingenuous remark that all lives matter. Well we know that all lives matter but that isnt the point, and we know it isnt Many Christians are unaware that racism still existed. They say we thought that was over years ago. No, it isnt. In some of their minds, Americas great sin is abortion or same sex marriage. They had no idea until the George Floyd affair that Americas true great sin is systemic racism. Too many Christians are unaware.
BLM executives have publicly referred to themselves as trained Marxist[s], including co-founder Patrisse Cullors, who confirmed in 2020 that she and her fellow organizers are Marxist ideologues focused on building a movement that could be utilized by many, many black folk. Activists sued BLM in September 2022 over allegations that its leader, Shalomyah Bowers, siphoned more than $10 million from the organization for her personal piggy bank.
During a May 30, 2021, sermon, Caudle appeared to accuse Trump of using his power to deceive and mislead by lying about the 2020 presidential election results.
