Mass Hysteria Grips The Mainstream Media And Brings Some Unexpected Results - Americans Angry And Tuning Out Daily Manufactured Outrage

- To Media: When You Find Yourself In A Hole, Stop Digging.

The media is outraged... OUTRAGED I tell you!

If you just sighed loudly, shrugged and thought "what else is new," then you are the type of person that the New York Times just discovered, or to rephrase, a writer for NYT discovered.

In a piece which was originally headlined (as archive.is shows) "Numb to Outrage, Republican Voters Feel a Deepening Bond to Trump," the writer, Jeremy W. Peters, conducted a series of interviews across the country with Trump voters, pollsters and strategists, which led him to a discovery.........with each new "outrage" over President Trump doing this or that, or tweeting something, or making a statement, Republican voters "no longer had the patience or interest to listen to what they see as another hysterical outburst by Democrats, Republican 'Never Trumpers' and the media."

In regards to the latest topic the media outrage machine has been spinning madly, the illegal immigration and border chaos, the writer offers and example of how the media hype is seen by those outside the media bubble:

“I think it’s terrible about the kids getting split up from their parents. But the parents shouldn’t have been here,” said Lynn Dittbenner, 65, of Elk River, Minn., who took the day off from relaxing with her family at their lake cabin to hear the president speak at a rally in Duluth on Wednesday.

Others said they saw a ploy by the president’s enemies to obscure news that was more favorable to him, like the internal Justice Department investigation that recently uncovered evidence of F.B.I. officials speaking disparagingly of Mr. Trump.

“It’s just incredible what the nation is trying to do to disrupt this president and his agenda,” said Jeff Butts, 58, an unemployed sales manager from Leesburg. “We don’t get to hear about that. We only get to hear about the crying babies on the border.”

According to Rasmussen the majority of American voters, not just the Republicans, also "blame the parents" for bringing alien minors into the U.S. illegally.

Via Rasmussen: "When families are arrested and separated after attempting to enter the United States illegally, 54% of Likely U.S. Voters say the parents are more to blame for breaking the law."

The latest outrage has played itself out much like all the manufactured outrage controversies since the day the President announced his candidacy.

The Media screams, non-stop, in one voice: The Children! In concentration camps! He is a nazi!

The Media amplifies Trump's response: Come legally, we will prosecute those that come illegally.

The Media screams again: He is heartless!

Americans  agree with President Trump: Come legally.

The Media: You are ALL Deplorables!

As is noted by Mr. Peters, the constant bombardment of outrage has pushed even more Republican voters towards supporting President Trump, where the latest Gallup poll shows 90 percent of Republicans approve of the job he is doing.

Peters also notes another factor causing the rising support for President Trump:

Another factor that seems to be driving up support is a sense that no one is acknowledging Mr. Trump’s successes, which they see as manifold, historic and irrefutable.

“Let’s see,” said John Westling, 70, of Princeton, Minn., reciting a list of the president’s accomplishments that he said no one in the media wants to talk about. “Economy booming, check. Unemployment down, check. Border security being addressed, check. Possible end to the Korean War that started when I was 3 years old, 68 years ago, check.”

“I suspect that if Trump walked across Lake Mille Lacs,” Mr. Westling added, “the media would announce, ‘Trump can’t swim!’”

Note: Before moving along, it is noteworthy that someone at the NYT must have taken issue with the writer highlighting the "outrage" fatigue caused by the media's constant apocalyptic declarations, because the original headline was changed and now reads "As Critics Assail Trump, His Supporters Dig In Deeper."

MASS HYSTERIA GRIPS THE LIBERAL MEDIA

Last week I read something over at the website Ricochet which highlights the mass hysteria which has gripped the liberal media, by listing all the over-the-top freakouts by the media in just the last 60 days:

Today, the media is giving apocalyptic coverage to family separations at the border. Trump is compared to Hitler, he’s a madman leading us to war, and Obama-era policies are blamed on the current administration. It all seems too familiar. In just the past two months:

• Trump’s meeting with Kim Jong Un normalized a savage despot and endorsed his concentration camps.
• Trump criticizing Canada shows he is destroying our strongest alliances, which could lead us to war.
• Melania is missing! Trump must have abused her.
• Trump refuses to ban guns, despite the shooting at Santa Fe High School. The blood is on his hands.
• Trump cancels summit with North Korea, which will lead us to nuclear war.
• Trump moved the US Embassy to Jerusalem, causing the peaceful residents of Gaza to riot protest. This will lead to war.
• Trump withdraws from Iranian nuclear deal, which will lead us to nuclear holocaust.
• Trump tells Honduran caravan they won’t be allowed into the US. What a Nazi.
• More post-hurricane problems in Puerto Rico, meaning Trump hates brown people. Did we mention he’s a Nazi?
• Trump orders airstrikes on Syria, which will lead us to war. Just like Hitler.

Again, these apocalyptic media panics are just from the past 60 days. Every week the world is ending for a different reason; all of them are Trump’s fault.

Thomas Lifson over at American Thinker explains why he thinks the media hysteria is increasing;

1)  The political rise, election, and continuing successes of Donald Trump, currently presiding over the best economic times since the Reagan administration.  Trump violates all the political norms that they learned, embraced, and enforced in their own rise to media prominence.  When norms are violated, anger is the dominant response of members of the group that holds the norms.

2) The mainstream media perceive that they have lost the ability to shape public perceptions beyond the 30% or so of the populace that is committed to left-progressivism.  The majority of the public no longer trusts or believes what they have to say.  And this sense of powerlessness in the face of a hated opponent is literally driving them crazy.

The liberal media have lost control of the narrative. No matter how much outrage they manufacture, the only people that still believe them with a large degree of confidence are their far left liberal base, as evidenced by the most recent Gallup/John S. and James L. Knight Foundation survey released on June 20, 2018, which found that 62 percent of U.S. adults think the "the news they read in newspapers, see on television or hear on the radio is biased." They also believe that 44 percent of what they see from the media is "inaccurate."

Politically, Republicans (average estimate of 51%) and conservatives (54%) are far more likely to perceive misinformation on legacy media than are Democrats (23%) and liberals (24%). Independents, at 42%, are closer in their opinion to Republicans than Democrats. Political moderates’ (36%) estimates are closer to those of liberals than conservatives. (Source - 33 page PDF of survey results)

While those numbers do not bode well for the Mockingbird Media, the following findings should terrify them

More than eight in 10 U.S. adults report being angry or bothered by seeing biased information. A slightly greater proportion of Americans — more than nine in 10 — get angry or bothered by inaccurate information.

So the media's circle jerk of outrage, when objective observers note bias, or when inaccurate information is highlighted, is not just making people "tune out"  and "bonding" Republicans with President Trump as the NYT claims, but is actually generating "anger" towards the media by an overwhelming majority of U.S. adults of different affiliations.

BOTTOM LINE ANALYSIS

The liberal media is caught in a trap of their own making, and it comes back to only one issue: Control. They lost control of the narrative from day one of the Trump candidacy, first by being caught red-handed selectively quoting him and then attempting to manufacture outrage over their selective quote.

From that day forward, they have consistently expressed outrage over just about every single thing the then-candidate Trump said, to what he has done since becoming President, to the point where, frankly, Americans are sick and tired of seeing/listening to them complain.

There is another factor at play here, which other analytical pieces I have read, haven't hightlighted.

President Trump is not only benefitting from the media's mass hysteria, he has, from day one, deliberately fed it and has been using their own bias against them.

The President knows that if he says something that resonates with everyday Americans, but which the political class establishment and the liberal media will find "outrageous," that they will amplify his message hysterically in an attempt to tell Americans they shouldn't listen to him. In the meantime, many Americans happen to agree with many aspects of what he is saying and the media plays it over and over again until every American has heard it.

As Lifson from American Thinker rightly warns, expect the volume of the media hysteria to increase as we draw closer to the midterms.

The media has dug themselves a deep hole but they cannot pull themselves out of it because they will not put down the shovel.

Below Sean Hannity does a good job of showing example after example of the mass hysteria that has infected the liberal media over the past couple of weeks.
