As War Drums Beat Louder, Preparing To Shelter-In-Place From Nuclear Fallout Has Never Been So Important - Surviving The Aftermath Of A Nuke Attack Will Depend On How Prepared You Are

Unlike during the Cuban Missile Crisis when Americans were building nuclear fallout shelters deep underground in their backyards, most Americans today are woefully unprepared for surviving the aftermath of a nuclear WWIII.
It is common knowledge that anything or anybody close to a direct nuclear hit is going to be completely wiped out, which is why we focus on the aftermath and not the deadly event itself. With the threats of nuclear strikes becoming more likely each day as nuclear-capable countries take sides in the Russia/Ukraine conflict, we feel that preparation will be the key to who survives the aftermath and who does not.
A couple quick reminders.
1) I recently highlighted the division between countries siding with Russia, and countries siding with the U.S., who leads NATO in their support for Ukraine, along with the amount of nukes each side is known to have.

• Russia - 6,255 nuclear warheads
• China - 350 nuclear warheads
• Pakistan - 165 nuclear warheads
• India - 156 nuclear warheads
• North Korea - none, but material to build 40-50 nuclear warheads
• United States of America - 5,550 nuclear warheads
• France - 290 nuclear warheads
• Israel - 90 nuclear warheads
2) In 2017 Princeton University researchers associated with the Program on Science & Global Security (SGS) gamed out a nuclear war scenario, starting with the first strike coming from Russia
Known as 'Plan A', the four-minute animation aims to highlight the 'potentially catastrophic' consequences of conflict between Russia and NATO countries.
The model predicts 34.1 million deaths and 55.9 million injured, and that is just the starting data:
The model projects 3.4 million casualties from this phase of the war, which would last only 45 minutes.
In the final phase of the conflict, both sides take aim at each other's 30 most populated cities and economic centres — deploying 5 to 10 nukes for each one — to attempt to inhibit each side's recovery from the war.
Such a move, the researchers conclude, would see another 85.3 million casualties within the space of 45 minutes.
What we are looking at is over 100 million people wiped out in less than a day.
Then those that have survived, must deal with the fall out and the radiation.

THE PROPAGANDA WAR........
It is very difficult to get accurate news rather then sheer propaganda from Ukraine or Russia. The American media mimics everything Ukraine claims without question as if it is gospel, while treating Russia as the boogeyman. Russia plays the same game with the countries supporting them mimicking their propaganda, so we trying our best to look at the news and be very clear about what is a claim versus what is fact.
In March 2022, Russia accused Ukraine of preparing to blow up a nuclear reactor and blame Russia for it, as a false flag.
The SBU and the militants of the Azov Battalion are planning to blow up the reactor and accuse the Russian Armed Forces of allegedly launching a missile attack on the experimental nuclear facility,” the ministry said in a statement, warning of the risk of radioactive contamination of the area should such a false flag incident take place.
Russia has mined a major Ukrainian hydroelectric dam and is ready to flood dozens of towns in an attack it would blame on Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed on Thursday.
As an interesting aside, notice the first link is from RT, Russian media, while second comes from American media. That is because if you want both sides, you have to look to foreign media because the MSM here, will only push Ukrainian propaganda, whether it is true or not.
The point here is we are not there to bear witness to what is true or not true, and with American leaders automatically assuming Ukraine is telling the truth, then trickling that assumption down to the media, social media, and big tech penalizing those that dare question the official narrative, it is literally impossible to get 100% of the truth from any one source.
Russia says they invaded because Ukraine was committing genocide against ethnic Russians in Ukraine, and Ukraine denies it and claims that is just a pretext for war.
I could follow the trail to each claim, but..... I don't care. Does that sound cold? Is it wrong that my concern is nothing seems to be deescalating this war? It isn't our business, and we should have stayed out of it, but the fallout from this war, with nuclear countries taking sides, and an escalation of nuclear rhetoric, means "we the people" could all suffer catastrophically.
That, I care about.
THE PREPARED WILL BE THE SURVIVORS
Stefan Stanford recently offered suggestions on ways to prepare for the aftermath of a nuclear war. He includes items such as Faraday fabrics, iodine, Geiger counters, nuke alert kits, radiation burn creams, first aid kits, generators, fuel cans, and survival food.
Back in March 2022 Stefan also did an outstanding job in citing a document which covers sheltering in place in case of a radiation emergency.
Once you have chosen the location of a room where you live, basements being favored, but those without can choose one they prefer, one with as few windows as possible, storing anything that would be needed for a prolonged stay, is a primary concern.
Note: Many of these items you will already have, but in going through the list, it is almost guaranteed you will see things not thought of before, I know I did!

I'll add that ANP believes in the specific case of nuclear aftermath, the amount of food and water should be for far longer than just three days.
Stock up on supplies, just as you would in case of severe weather conditions or other emergencies.
Following is a list of things to consider when preparing your emergency kit.
• Food with a long shelf life—Examples of this include canned, dried, and packaged food products. Store enough food for each member of the household for at least 3 days.
• Water—In preparation for an emergency, purchase and store bottled water or simply store water from the tap. Each person in the household will need about 1 gallon per day; plan on storing enough water, per person, for at least 3 days.
• A change of clothes and shoes—Check clothing every 6 months and remove clothes that no longer fit or are unsuitable for seasonal weather. Remember to include underwear, socks, sturdy shoes or work boots, and winter or summer clothes as needed.
• Paper plates, paper towels, and plastic utensils—Store disposable dishware and utensils because you will not have enough water to wash dishes and because community water sources may be contaminated.
• Plastic bags—Because you may not be able to leave your shelter for several days, you will need to collect your waste in plastic bags until it can be removed.
• Bedding—Store sheets, blankets, towels, and cots for use during the time that you cannot leave your shelter.
• Battery-operated radio and batteries—Electrical power may not be on for several days. A battery-operated radio will allow you to listen to emergency messages.
• Medicines—Have 2-3 days’ dose of your current prescription medicines in a childproof bottle for your shelter medical kit; label with the name and expiration date of the medicine. (Discuss with your doctor the best way to obtain this small amount of extra medicine.) Be sure to check medicines in your kit every 6 months to make sure they are not past the expiration date.
• Toiletries—Keep a supply of soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, deodorant, disinfectants, etc.
• Flashlight and batteries—Electrical power may be out for several days. A flashlight will help you see in your shelter.
• A telephone, cell phone or satellite phone —Although cell phone or ground phone service may be interrupted, there is still a chance that you will be able to use a phone to call outside for information and advice from emergency services. Be sure to check and see if these devices are fully charged at least weekly.
• Extra eyeglasses or contact lenses and cleaning supplies.
• Duct tape and heavy plastic sheeting—You can use these items to seal the door to your shelter and to seal any vents that open into your shelter for a short period of time if a radiation plume is passing over.
• Pet food, baby formula, diapers, etc.—Don’t forget the other members of your family. If you have an infant, store extra formula and diapers. If you have pets keep a 3-day supply of pet food. Also include cleaners to help disinfect those areas where pets relieve themselves.
• First aid kit—You can purchase a first-aid kit or prepare one yourself. Be sure to include the following items:
- Syrup of ipecac to cause vomiting if advised by the Poison Control Center
- Activated charcoal to stop vomiting if advised by the Poison Control Center
• Games, books, and other entertainment—Because you may be in your shelter for several days, keep items on hand to occupy your family during that time. Children are likely to get bored if they have to stay in one place for long periods. Think of activities that they will enjoy doing while in the shelter—finger painting, coloring, playing games, etc.
I would add at the suggestion of a reader, gas masks and hazard suits in case one must leave their safe room or shelter.
BOTTOM LINE
The beating of the war drums are not getting quieter, and in fact, continue to increase, so once we find ourselves suggesting that we prepare for the worst and hope for the best, in which calmer heads prevail.
One that first nuke goes off, it will be too late to prepare.
