TEOTWAWKI Times Are Close: With Nuclear Powers, India And Pakistan in Conflict Again, We Are Reminded Of How A Nuclear Winter Would Send Us Back To The Dark Ages
Years ago I saw a simulation video showing what would happen if India and Pakistan unleashed nuclear weapons against each other, and the global ramifications, including how a war 8100+ miles away would affect America.
While I haven't been able to find that video from more than a decade ago, I have found another showing basically the same thing.
As everyone reading this already knows, a war between two nuclear capable countries, doesn't just cause catastrophic damage to those two individual nations, with more than 100 million deaths, but the fallout would cause a "nuclear winter," which directly alters the entire world.
So, first the news that has brought about this article on "The end of the world as we know it (TEOTWAWKI)," and how two nations that have been engaged in multiple conflicts since 1947, could be the straw that breaks the camels back.
To see a history of said conflicts sincethe British ceded colonial control of the subcontinent in 1947, see "Timeline of India and Pakistan's military conflicts," over at USA Today.
On May 6, 2025 it was reported by a number of outlets that India targeted nine sites in Pakistan that Indias Defense Ministry said were locationswhere terrorist attacks against India have been planned.
Indian military officials said Wednesday that their forces targeted "terrorist camps" that served as recruitment centers and weapon storage facilities for Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, another Islamist militant group, according to Reuters.
Pakistan has vowed retaliation.
"Pakistan has every right to give a robust response to this act of war imposed by India, and a strong response is indeed being given," Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared.
Ok, history of the two nations dealt with.
What does this have to do with America, you ask? Glad you asked.
The video below is the one spoke of above, which details what would happen should India and Pakistan begin dropping nukes on each other, and the part which shows the effects on the U.S, and even Ukraine and Russia, known as "break baskets" begins on the "stage 4" portion which starts at the 3:09 minute mark detailing the global impact and the start of a nuclear winter which causes crop failures across the world.
This would not just destroy major crops but even back yard vegetable and fruit gardens meant to just feed a person or a family.
NUCLEAR WINTER........
Food supplies and starvation are not the only consequences of a nuclear war, but what is called a "nuclear winter," would cause widespread death and destruction.
In 2023, Forbes published a piece highlighting a significant lack of awareness among the U.S. and UK, populations in regards to a nuclear winter. While Forbes was worrying about nuke being dropped in the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the results of a study by the University of Cambridges Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER), give us a good look at how unprepared Americans are for the result of a nuclear winter, no matter the countries involved.
The headline, "No Sunny Days For A Decade, Extreme Cold And Starvation: Nuclear Winter And The Urgent Need For Public Education," offers a glimpse into information not widely spoken about, so it is worth the read, though I will point out some key findings that caught my eye.
Just 3.2% in the UK and 7.5% in the US said they had heard of nuclear winter in contemporary media or culture.
A nuclear winter would be the result of a chain reaction that would go something like this:
Nuclear warheads striking cities would cause firestorms and send huge amounts of soot into the stratosphere.
That soot would block out much of the Sun for up to a decade.
Temperatures would drop around the world, leaving many places sub-zero.
Mass crop failure. International trade in food suspended.
Mass starvation of hundreds of millions of people in countries remote from the conflict.
Soil and water close to where nuclear weapons were used would be contaminated.
The key quote is the last sentence of the piece "Ideas of nuclear winter are predominantly a lingering cultural memory as if it is the stuff of history, rather than a horribly contemporary risk."

AFTER THE NUKES ARE DROPPED.....
The information below was obtained from a variety of sources, and each will be linked to the appropriate site.
First order of business is the fact that ozone depletion could cause an abundance of UV radiation to seep through into our atmosphere. So, we would need to deal with this excess radiation, which in high amounts can cause skin cancer and eye problems (especially to the cornea). In fact, eye damage can actually occur without any pain or discomfort. (Source)
Suggestions:
Stay covered from head to toe. Hats, gloves, sunglasses. Children are more susceptible. It will also be easier to stay out of the sun because....nuclear winter!
Heating supplies in case gas and electric are unavailable. solar generators would be useless as well, so wood stoves, or stocking up on wood for a fireplace, would be recommended.
This is also where prepping comes in handy, and much of the freeze dried survival foods would get eaten, for those that have been stockpiling such things. For those that haven't, a list, and links to survival foods and buckets will be at the bottom of this article.
One thing many do not consider, even when dealing with yearly weather disasters, is sanitation. From power pedaled washing machines to toilet systems can increase the chances of survival greatly.
Another must should enough nukes be dropped to cause a global nuclear winter, are books. Not just reading materials to keep busy, but how to books on medicine, emergency medial needs, and survival, along with an extensive first aid kit, and it wouldn't hurt to have a simple survival kit either.
This long lasting conflict between India and Pakistan might fizzle out as it has many times since 1947, but with tensions high all across the world, and with so many nations being nuclear capable, at some point a nation is going to be suicidal enough to drop a nuke, and once one is dropped there is a high likelihood that another will be launched in response.
If enough nukes are dropped, nuclear winter would be an inevitability, so being prepared for that, means you will be prepared automatically for other emergencies, natural disasters or life threatening weather events.
To be frank, and while it might sound cold and harsh, if America is not directly, as in boot on the ground, or launching nukes, involved, I generally keep an eye on the news, but would prefer to focus on matters that directly affect us.
Nuclear winter would affect us all.
