Three Secret Service agents have been placed on leave during an investigation into potential misconduct, a spokesperson told the Daily Caller.
The agents, who were non-law-enforcement personnel, were walked out of their offices on Monday, including Secret Service Communications Director Anthony Guglielmi, RealClearPolitics reported. The outlet alleged that the investigation relates to potential leaks, though it is unclear which incident or story the suspensions relate to.
“Three non-law enforcement personnel at the U.S. Secret Service have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into potential misconduct. Per policy, this incident is being investigated by the Office of Professional Responsibility. We are unable to comment further at this time,” a Secret Service spokesperson told the Caller.
“The U.S. Secret Service is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in fulfilling our zero-fail mission of protecting the President and other high-level government officials. Our critical work demands that our workforce maintain an unwavering commitment to duty, honesty, and courage in all aspects of their jobs. We will continue to pursue the level of excellence that is worthy of the mission which has been entrusted to us by the American people,” the spokesperson continued.
The Washington Post reported in August that while President Donald Trump was on a trip to Turkey, he secretly flew on a military aircraft while the press and other White House staffers flew on Air Force One amid an Iranian assassination threat. The outlet later revealed that the CIA had “low confidence” in the potential threat.
The Secret Service began investigating a member of the vice president’s protective detail in July after the agent allegedly compromised operational and information security, the Caller previously learned. Earlier in the month, MSNow had reported complaints within Vice President Vance’s protective detail about unexpected travel and “inappropriate or even unprecedented use” of government resources, citing “Secret Service sources.”
“A member of the Vice Presidential Protective Division is the subject of an administrative investigation, and potential criminal inquiry, involving allegations of compromising operational and information security,” Anthony Guglielmi, U.S. Secret Service Chief of Communications, previously told the Caller in a statement. Guglielmi is one of the agents placed on leave on Monday after RCP.
“While we will not comment on the specifics of this matter, one principle is unequivocal: any conduct that potentially threatens the safety of a protectee will not be tolerated,” he added.
