Toxic Chemicals In Dried Spices & Herbs, Lab Grown Meats Approved For Sale In The U.S., Bioengineered Canned Veggies And More, Show How Dangerous Store-Bought Food Can Be
In August we wrote about checking all food labels after seeing that most canned and boxed foods had a "bioengineered" label on them. It was with great joy (massive sarcasm) that I ran up and down the stairs grabbing boxes and canned foods from my cabinets so I could take pictures of these bioengineered labels.
Stuffing mix, cornbread, Bisquick, Campbell's and Chunky soups, among just some of the images I and others took to show readers how "Genetically Modified Organisms" (GMOs) are now listed as "bioengineered ingredients."
Since writing that piece in mid-August, I have been doing more research and have found quite a bit more information on this topic. So it is time to delve into other food issues to beware of as well as more foods to beware of.
The companies received approvals for federal inspections required to sell meat and poultry in the U.S. The action came months after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration deemed that products from both companies are safe to eat. A manufacturing company called Joinn Biologics, which works with Good Meat, was also cleared to make the products.
Cultivated meat is grown in steel tanks, using cells that come from a living animal, a fertilized egg or a special bank of stored cells. In Upside’s case, it comes out in large sheets that are then formed into shapes like chicken cutlets and sausages. Good Meat, which already sells cultivated meat in Singapore, the first country to allow it, turns masses of chicken cells into cutlets, nuggets, shredded meat and satays.
Other meats will not be far behind this latest move on the part of the Agriculture Department.
According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, lab-grown meat is worse for the environment than natural meat, so the entire premise is false. The ultimate goal is food control.
• While the fake meat industry is being touted as an environmentally friendly and sustainable way to feed the world, the true intent is to recreate the kind of global control that Monsanto and others achieved through patented GMO seed development
• Researchers at UC Davis warn there are major environmental downsides to lab-grown meat. According to their “cradle-to-gate life cycle” analysis, the lab-grown meat industry produces up to 25 times more CO2 than traditional animal husbandry, which nullifies the core ideological foundation upon which the industry is built.
The bright side is that cultivated aka lab grown, meat is far more expensive to make so Americans have a little time to stock up on meats before we have to start worrying about checking those labels. Freezer space can be taken up quickly when deciding to stock up on meats versus weekly shopping for meats, so we're left with two choices.
Buy a deep freezer or three or save space and just use freeze dried meats.
As we have said before, freeze dried meats are real meat, at least for now, needs hot water to rehydrate, can be used by the handful in soups, stews, salads, and casseroles, and the best part is most freeze dried survival foods last for 20 to 25 years unopened.

But, with your amazing help, we at ANP promise to keep 'speaking truth to power' because, as Orwell also reminded us, "If liberty means anything at all it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear."
FRESH OR CANNED VEGGIES.....BEWARE
Bad news, good news and bad news here.
First bout of bad news is that unless you know where certain vegetables and fruits that you find in your grocery store's produce section are grown, you may not know if they are GMO (bioengineered) or non-GMO. Even then, it isn't assured.
This is an issue to every state and country that produces food, but to lesser extent.
Another example: In going through Amazon's selection of canned vegetables, we found some with a "bioengineered ingredients" label, and some from the same brand that does not have that label. It appears to depend on what vegetable is in the can.
"Happy Belly," made in Canada, has a mixed vegetable option, but it says "bioengineered" on the label, but other canned vegetables from that brand, do not.
The good news is Del Monte has NON-GMO labels on all their canned vegetables.
Note the message at the very bottom, left side, makes it clear that the ingredients in this product are not genetically modified.
Bad news again, some other brands, if corn or potatoes is one of their ingredients, do have the bioengineered labels.
Again we see multiple options here: 1) Check every can before purchasing for the bioengineered label, or a smart label where you have to scan the code just to find out of there are genetically modified ingredients; 2) Grow your own veggies with non-GMO seeds, year round, which means indoor gardening in cold climates; 3) Freeze dried vegetables.
For those with limited space, the freeze dried options might be a better fit than growing all your vegetables indoors, but for those with adequate indoor space, grow, grow and grow some more, because it won't be long before it is hard to find vegetables that aren't modified in some way.
The freeze dried fruit buckets are limited in options, but everything not included in the buckets, including onions, green beans, carrots, potatoes, spinach, celery, and more, can all be found on Amazon's search page, here.
DANGEORUS CHEMICALS IN SPICES AND HERBS....
Another thing I found while researching this piece is quite disturbing, and Consumer Reports. org testing has shown some store-bought herbs and spices contain arsenic, cadmium, and lead, enough so to be dangerous to your health.
CR tested 126 products from McCormick, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and other popular brands. Almost a third had heavy metal levels high enough to raise health concerns.
Approximately one third of the products they tested had dangerous levels of arsenic, cadmium, and lead, two-thirds didn't.
Read the entire piece, and follow the link to their test results, to know which brands to stay away from.
Last but definitely not least, one way that genetically modified ingredients get into your food is actually because of cotton, which is considered the "world's dirtiest crop," and while not edible, is added by "food oils or indirectly through the milk and meats of animals feeding on cotton seed meal and cotton gin by-products."
GMO and Bt cotton by-products generated during the manufacture of conventional cotton wreak havoc on our food chain. These by-products are commonly known as “Gin Trash,” which consists of cotton seed, stalk, leaves, burrs, twigs, dirt and everything else left over from cotton textile production. This “Gin Trash” is sold to food companies to undergo further processing to create cotton seed oil, additional additives and fillers in livestock feed, and soil compost mix. Additionally, the waste from the processing goes directly into our water supply.
• Cotton is considered the world’s dirtiest crop due to its heavy use of pesticides
• Worldwide, cotton covers 2.5% of the cultivated land and cotton growers use 16% of the world’s pesticides
•Cotton is one of the top four GMO crops produced in the world which includes soy, canola, and corn.
• On average, 90% of U.S. cotton in 2010 was genetically engineered, according to a USDA survey. However 95 to 98% of all cotton is now genetically engineered in nine of the eleven cotton-producing states surveyed.
BOTTOM LINE...
If there is a way to mess with the food supply, scientists, researchers and TPTB will do so. To control the food is to control the people.
We, collectively, have to start going back to the basics of our ancestors and make anything we can from scratch, be vigilant in reading labels, and knowing exactly where our fruits and vegetables come from, what city/state/country. Then research the heck out of each of those places and how they grow their foods.
