Violent Threats Hit A Fevered Pitch Over Food Stamp Benefits As Stores Board Up In Preparation For Looting And Food Riots

Columbus' Downtown Dollar General, Oct. 27, 2025

By Susan Duclos - All News Pipeline

An Ohio Dollar General, on advice from a security group, boarded up their windows and doors in preparation for possible looting when Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits run out on November 1, 2025, due to the government shutdown after Democrats voted more than a dozen times to reject a clean congressional bill to fund the government.

Local city and downtown Columbus officials were outraged, with opinion columnists claiming the action taken to prevent looting, was an indication that poor people were violent.

Via The Columbus Dispatch op-ed:

There is not now, nor was there ever any evidence that hungry, pitchfork-brandishing people — the bulk of them moms, kids, and people over age 60 — were out to loot the downtown Columbus store if SNAP benefits run out of funds Saturday, Nov. 1, due to the federal government shutdown.

The Dollar General store ended up removing the boards.

That very paragraph, at the beginning of the op-ed, completely ignores the increasingly violent rhetoric coming from some SNAP recipients.

Dollar General and other stores that offer food have every right, in fact I would say, obligation, to protect their workers, merchandise and customers, yet city officials and people like the woman that wrote the disconnected-from-reality op-ed, seem to think that businesses and companies don't have those rights and obligations.

Since I have been keeping track of the violent rhetoric and threats online leading up the November 1, 2025 SNAP benefit cuts, the sheer ignorance of the above-cited opinion piece at The Columbus Dispatch, caught my attention, and out went my planned article as I decided to follow up with more examples of why business owners need to make preparations.

Like the guy below, who is encouraging people to "hold security back" at stores that carry food, so others can steal from said stores.

Responsible people, those not deliberately trying to incite violence, do not talk about holding back store security and helping people steal, they offer up solutions, such links to find a local food bank, or mobile food pantries, and for seniors that use supplemental food stamps, there are senior programs that can help.

There are charities, churches that help families and food pantries. Those genuinely in need do have options, but the people you will see below, most of them taking to TikTok to issue their threats of looting/stealing, and violence, give companies just cause to do whatever they need to do to protect their businesses, and their customers.

VIOLENT THREATS HIT A FEVERED PITCH.....

Below are some of the more recent examples found since I wrote my last piece on possible, and likely food riots.

In the next video, we see a woman that read a false story about Walmart shutting down all but curbside pickup, and instead of taking a minute to search online to find out that the story was fake, she wasted that time making herself look stupid to create a threatening video.

The man, if he can be called that, below, thinks that "stealing is never wrong," whether EBT  and food stamps are cut off or not.

What strikes me the most about the videos I have been seeing is the extreme sense of entitlement these people seem to have as a mindset. Because a company makes millions, these people seem to think that makes robbery, which is a crime, ok to commit?

Some think a lot of this is just empty talk, but as the woman below shows us, the stealing of food has already begun. She proudly boasts while showing the items she is taking out of her purse, that she stole it all because she only had $22 dollars left on her card.

That woman just admitted, on video, to robbery, while telling people to take off meat labels so they don't beep when leaving the store.

Some more from the EBT of TikTok account on X, who has been publishing the threats that others are making over at TikTok.

BOTTOM LINE.....

In the time it takes to create and upload a TikTok video, those people above threatening violence and looting, could have done a simple search for local organizations that could offer them some help, but they prefer to make threats rather than do so.

There are some people in genuine need, including more than a million veterans, and those on a fixed income, yet those aren't the people mouthing off in TikTok videos, suggesting that November is a month to "help people steal," or threatening violence.

Below are a couple of videos trying to push some common sense

One woman talks about the consequences to someone planning to steal food she just paid for. Another women says if you have an Iphone, or your kids are wearing Jordan's, sell the stuff and stop complaining or threatening. If you buy fake eyelashes, and nails, you are "wearing" what your children could be eating.
