Flag Day, US Army's 250th Birthday, Father's Day, Men's Health Week/Month, Tracking Progress On Lawfare & Federal Register, And Beware Of The No Kings Insurrection Riots
Wikipedia tells us the US adopted it's first flag on June 14, 1777 through a resolution enacted by the Second Continental Congress. The resolution declared the flag would have 13 stripes alternating white and red to represent the 13 states and 13 stars in white on a blue background to represent a new constellation. Flag Day was first proposed in 1861, but it was not until 1916 that President Woodrow Wilson issued the first proclamation declaring June 14, 1916 as Flag Day. The Library of Congress tells us that it was not until Aug 3, 1949 that Congress established Flag Day as a National Day through 63 Stat. 492. Pennsylvania was the first state to celebrate Flag Day in 1937. On June 9, 1966 Congress declared in 80 Stat. 194(aka Public Law 89-442), that the week including June 14 be declared as National Flag Week.
So where does Betsy Ross come in? US History Org explains George Washington, Robert Morris, and George Ross asked Betsy Ross to create the first flag for the fledgling country. Betsy was known to all 3 men and, as a widow, was operating a struggling upholstery business (which did all kinds of sewing, not just upholstery).
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim June 14, 2025, as Flag Day, and the week starting June 8, 2025, as National Flag Week. I direct the appropriate officials to display the flag on all Federal Government buildings during this week, and I urge all Americans to observe Flag Day and National Flag Week by displaying the flag. I also encourage the people of the United States to proudly observe with all due ceremony those days from Flag Day through Independence Day, set aside by the Congress (89 Stat. 211), as a time to honor America, to celebrate our heritage in public gatherings and activities, and to publicly recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.
The US Army states it was established officially on June 14, 1775. Leading up to the establishment of the Army, a series of incidents occurred. On March 25, 1774 Boston Port Act that was the start of the "Intolerable Acts" Britain tried to suppress in exerting its authority over the colonies. May 20, 1774 was Intolerable Act 2 when Britain controlled Massachusetts Government stripped the colony of its sovereignty. Of course, you can't keep a good insurrection down, so the Patriots created a parallel government and began preparing for an armed conflict. April 19, 1775 is recorded as the actual start of the Revolutionary War as a response to Britain attempting to seize and destroy the Patriot's munitions the day before. May 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress met and decided to create an Army to fight for freedom from the British. Finally, on June 14, 1775 the Congress:
Resolved, That six companies of expert riflemen [sic], be immediately raised in Pennsylvania, two in Maryland, and two in Virginia; . . . [and] that each company, as soon as completed [sic], shall march and join the army near Boston, to be there employed as light infantry, under the command of the chief Officer in that army.
This resolution officially created the Continental Army. On June 15, 1775, Congress selected George Washington to be appointed as Commander in Chief. This was made official on June 19, 1775. On July 4, 1776, Congress declared independence and the Continental Army officially became the United States Army. After the revolutionary war, Congress disbanded the Army. By June 2, 1784, all members of the Army were discharged. Yet, on June 3, 1784, Congress voted to form the 1st American Regiment and by fall the US Army was 1 regiment with 8 infantry and 2 artillery companies. On August 7, 1989 the Department of War was created under the newly created US Congress.
The US Army has two oaths when one enlists: one for Commissioned Officers and the other for regular enlisted. Commissioned Officers oath:
I ___, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God. (Title 5 U.S. Code 3331, an individual, except the President, elected or appointed to an office of honor or profit in the civil service or uniformed services)
I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God. (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).
It is my contention that these oaths do not have an expiration date. Once a 'soldier,' always a 'soldier' (where 'soldier' stands for any Military Service Member of any branch of service).
On this 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States Army, we pay tribute to every legend of liberty who sacrificed their life to keep America safe, sovereign, and free. As my Administration continues the work of protecting our homeland and upholding our way of life, we proudly summon the spirit, confidence, and resolve of the intrepid men who won our independence on the battlefield 250 years ago and we vow that their legacy of courage will never perish, and that our sacred birthright of freedom will never, ever die.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaimJune 14, 2025, as a day in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States Army. This Well Defend.
History.comexplains that although a West Virginia church honored 362 men as 'who died in the Fairmont Coal Company Mines explosion on July 5, 1908; the first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington. Organized by Sonora Smart Dodd, who had lost her mother early in her life and thought her father deserved recognition for raising her and her 5 siblings. Sonora's father, William Jackson Smart, was a Civil War Veteran who married twice and windowed both times, leaving his with 14 total children to raise. Although Mother's day was made "official" in 1914, Father's Day was not official until 1972 when Richard Nixon signed the Law making it the 3rd Sunday in June. History goes on to state:
Many men, however, continued to disdain the day. As one historian writes, they scoffed at the holidays sentimental attempts to domesticate manliness with flowers and gift-giving, or they derided the proliferation of such holidays as a commercial gimmick to sell more productsoften paid for by the father himself.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, in accordance with a joint resolution of the Congress approved April 24, 1972, as amended (36 U.S.C. 109), do hereby proclaim June 15, 2025, as Fathers Day. I call on United States Government officials to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on Fathers Day and invite State and local governments and the people of the United States to observe Fathers Day with appropriate ceremonies.
For far too long, the health, happiness, and well-being of our Nations men have been neglected, contributing to a troubling reality: men in the United States have a life expectancy five years shorter than women. They visit healthcare providers less frequently and often delay critical care. Men tend to have their first heart attack an average of 10 years earlier than women.
This neglect has been compounded by a vicious campaign against masculinity. This war on manhood has left many American men in a state of loneliness, confusion, and emptiness, with devastating consequences: men in the United States are four times more likely to commit suicide and more than twice as likely to overdose than women.
This National Mens Health Week, I make a solemn pledge to honor the men in America: we will always have your backand we will never waver in our promise to embolden you to lead long, healthy, and safe lives.
Just last month, I proudly signed an Executive Order to deliver most-favored-nation pricing to American patients, improve access to quality medical care, and lower the price of medications. Together, with my Make America Healthy Again Commission, we are empowering men to prioritize their health and prolong their lives.
Under my leadership, we will relentlessly pursue a healthier future for the men of our nation. We will always lift you up rather than tear you down, and we will champion the voices, values, and wellness of hardworking American men across our country.
