A couple recent news articles had me kicking the search engines into high gear and the results are not just astounding, but disturbing, as experimentation in the name of "science" and "curing diseases" not only bring up moral and ethical issues, but are actually reminiscent of science fiction horror movies like "The Island Of Doctor Moreau."
As the media breathlessly reports how human-animal hybrids are being grown for organ transplants, and how scientists in the UK get the go-ahead for gene editing, and how one Spanish scientist working at the Salk Institute in California claims the Pope gave his blessing "to inject human stem cells into early-stage animal embryos, then try to grow the mixtures inside surrogate animals," a look through headlines from the past decade shows that researchers and scientists have been playing God far longer than many know.

In 2005 the AP reported how scientists were creating "animals that are part human," using stem experimentation leading to the gentic mixing of species."
In 2011 it was reported in The Daily Mail that "150 human animal hybrids grown in UK labs," but it was the next part of the headline that brings up the question of how much scientific research has been conducted into creating human/animal hybrids, in secret... news that doesn't get reported.
The second part of that headline was "Embryos have been produced secretively for the past three years."
The hybrids have been produced secretively over the past three years by researchers looking into possible cures for a wide range of diseases.
The revelation comes just a day after a committee of scientists warned of a nightmare ‘Planet of the Apes’ scenario in which work on human-animal creations goes too far.
Last night a campaigner against the excesses of medical research said he was disgusted that scientists were ‘dabbling in the grotesque’.
Figures seen by the Daily Mail show that 155 ‘admixed’ embryos, containing both human and animal genetic material, have been created since the introduction of the 2008 Human Fertilisation Embryology Act.
This legalised the creation of a variety of hybrids, including an animal egg fertilised by a human sperm; ‘cybrids’, in which a human nucleus is implanted into an animal cell; and ‘chimeras’, in which human cells are mixed with animal embryos.
By February 2014 The Voice of Russia was warning that human/animal hybrids were "disasters in the making," and further 2014 reports that we are in the "era of chimeras" as scientists create bizarre human/animal hybrids.
Other examples have been noted of in a Slate article, such as packs of humanized-milk producing goats, an anal sphincter being placed into a mouse, and doctors constructing a human immune system made for animals. Still, these are just the projects that are known about. There may be other experiments underway that are off the radar. Human-animals hybrids are possible, but it leaves people debating on whether the benefits truly outweigh the risks involved.

There are claims that certain military and research facilities are being used secretly for genetic experimentation.
PLUM ISLAND
Via Wiki we have the official account of what type of research is being done at Plum Islan, located in the Town of Southold in Suffolk County, New York in the United States:
Plum Island Animal Disease Center of New York (PIADCNY) is a United States federal research facility dedicated to the study of animal diseases. It is part of the DHS Directorate for Science and Technology.
Since 1954, the center has had the goal of protecting America's livestock from animal diseases. During the Cold War a secret biological weapons program targeting livestock was conducted at the site, although it had slowly declined through the end of the century. After the September 11 attacks in 2001, Plum Island renewed its research into biological weapons. This program has been for many years the subject of controversy.

In 2008, a still-unidentified "creature" dubbed the Montauk Monster washed ashore on a beach near the business district of Montauk, New York and while experts guess it might be a deformed racoon carcass, to date, no official explanation has been issued as to what this creature truly was. No testing results, nothing, but some theorize it is possible it originated at Plum Island as part of secret experiments.
DULCE BASE
Dulce Base is rumored to be a underground facility under Archuleta Mesa on the Colorado-New Mexico border near the town of Dulce, New Mexico, in the United States where some claim "men, women and children are being abducted for experimentation against their will," and the "government has created animal-human hybrids and alien-human hybrids," at Dulce Base.
Thomas Costello revealed that the humans in cages on the 6th floor, also called “nightmare hall” were not insane, but were hysterical from fear although they were always dazed and drugged. Employees were told never to speak to the people in cages because they were there for severe mental illness and testing of psychological medications. After speaking to one, he investigated and saw the horrors that nightmare hall actually held, with the 6th and 7th lower levels housing human body parts and genetic abominations. After his discovery he assembled other people against this injustice to American citizens and the Dulce Wars began. Thomas’ wife and son were both kidnapped and are being held in an underground facility until he returns the photos and evidence against the government. He knows he can never get them back even if he did return the items. He is currently on the run for his life. No one knows if he is still currently alive.
Those are just two of a longer list of facilities shrouded in secrecy, which include Area 51, Hangar 18, , Pine Gap, Fort Detrick, Rudloe Manor, Zhitkur, Porton Down, the Dugway Proving Ground.
BOTTOM LINE
While some will assert these rumors, these claims that are made about the facilities in question, are unbelievable, just click the following link for a look back at the huge list of "secret" US human biological experiments of the past to understand that what we see being reported in the news today is generally just the tip of the iceberg as to what is really happening in secret and is not reported until years, sometimes decades later.
