As radical Democrat socialists drag the party as a whole drastically to the left of some of the older far left liberals in their own party, voters are beginning to get wary of the direction the party is heading with party elders apparently unable to hit the breaks on the a train that is heading off a cliff.
A Venezuelan expatriate is desperately trying to warn Americans about what is at the bottom of that cliff, for those that survive the initial crash.
Daniel Di Martino is a Venezuelan expatriate and Young Voices contributor studying economics at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and he recently wrote an op-ed at USA Today, which offers a dire warning to America.
He begins with a memory about trying to buy food in Venezuela:
The first time I couldn’t buy food at the grocery store, I was 15 years old. It was 2014 in Caracas, Venezuela, and I had spent more than an hour in line waiting. When I got to the register, I noticed I had forgotten my ID that day. Without the ID, the government rationing system would not let the supermarket sell my family the full quota of food we needed. It was four days until the government allowed me to buy more.
This was fairly normal for me. All my life, I lived under socialism in Venezuela until I left and came to the United States as a student in 2016. Because the regime in charge imposed price controls and nationalized the most important private industries, production plummeted. No wonder I had to wait hours in lines to buy simple products such as toothpaste or flour.
And the shortages went far beyond the supermarket.
My family and I suffered from blackouts and lack of water. The regime nationalized electricity in 2007 in an effort to make electricity “free.” Unsurprisingly, this resulted in underinvestment in the electrical grid. By 2016, my home lost power roughly once a week.
Now look at the policies that the Democrat party is proposing, Medicare for all, by "nationalizing" the health insurance industry, the Green New Deal that would cost $93 trillion, to which the most vocal Democrat socialist, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, proposes be paid for by forcing the Federal Reserve to just print more money, which Mr. Di Martino explains is what produced "Venezuela’s nightmare."
Read his entire op-ed, and watch him offer more details in the clip below as he was interviewed about his op-ed. His warning to Americans: "Democratic primary voters really need to push out these radical Democrats from their party because not all Democrats are that way. I really urge bipartisan compromise on this issue because if we continue [like] Venezuela with socialism and produce very radical socialist policies toward the United States, the United States might get closer to what we are seeing right now in Venezuela."
SOCIALISM LEADS TO DICTATORSHIP AND MASS KILLINGS
Free stuff always sounds good, but the intellectually honest understand that nothing is really ever free, someone must pay for it. Just today I read that Senator Elizabeth "Pocahontas" Warren is claiming that free child care should be a "fundamental right." Her proposal is that federal funds be used to pay for a "universal child care plan." In other words, taxpayers would be forced to pay for the care of other peoples children.
No, having a child is a choice, and when making that choice it is understood that caring for that child is the parents' responsibility, not the nation's taxpayers.
Ocasio-Cortez, or as I refer to her when talking to Stefan, the little bimbo from NY, is busy spewing nonsense about how Americans shouldn't be reproducing anymore because of "climate change," and stating "Maybe we shouldn’t be eating a hamburger for breakfast, lunch, and dinner," as if she or anyone has the right to tell people what to do, when to do it, what to eat or how much of (insert food here) they should be eating. Her most recent flub was deciding to tell those criticizing the unrealistic proposals in the Green New Deal "I'm the boss!"
Sounds a little dictatorial doesn't she? In fact, quite a few of the newly elected Democrats that are taking the spotlight are all starting to sound like that.
There is a reason for that...... socialism leads to dictatorships because socialism is all about "controlling" the populace, by force if necessary.
As was explained in March 2017, by Richard M. Ebeling, "Socialism requires a dictator." What the new Democrat party fails to do, is read or learn from history, as to what inevitably happens to most socialist countries, as well as the tens of millions that have been slaughtered by the dictators that eventually run them.
Via Liberty.me, we see a list of the largest killings in the 20th century of citizens by their own socialist and communist governments:
• 40-70 million killed. China under Chairman Mao. Single Party Socialism. 1958-61 “The Great Leap Forward”.
• 20 million killed. USSR under Joseph “socialism in one country” Stalin. 1936-52 “The Great Purge”.
• 40 million killed. USSR under all other leaders.
• 4 million killed. Cambodia under Pol Pot. Communist. 1975-79.
• 1.6 million murdered; 4 million killed in hard labor. North Korea under Kim Il Sung. Independent socialist State.
• 1.15 million killed. Yugoslavia under Josip ” socialist federation President” Tito. 1945-65.
• 1 million total killed. Ethiopia under Menghistu. Communist. 1975-1978 “The Red Terror.”
• 1 million killed. Indonesia under Suharto. Communist. 1966.
• 1 million killed from genocide; this does not include war casualties. Afghanistan under Brezhnev. Communist. 1979 – 1981.
• 800,000 killed. Rwanda under Jean Kambanda. 1994. Socialist.
The author offers one of the most accurate and succinct explanations of why socialism leads to a dictatorship, which eventually leads to the death of millions of citizens, when he writes "Both socialism & communism require a commitment to the use of force. You cannot decide what to do with the other guy’s money unless you are committed to use force to take that money from him."
THOSE THAT CANNOT REMEBER THE PAST ARE CONDEMNED TO REPEAT IT
The Democrat socialists leading the party off the cliff have never lived in a socialist country. Their success, their elections, all came from living in a Republic that holds democratic elections, yet despite the historical documentation available to learn from, and the dire warnings being offered from those that escaped from socialist countries, and are able to see how the radical liberals are attempting to turn America into the very type of country they fled from, they continue to try to lead America into following the path of what we are watching happen right this moment in Venezuela, and what history has shown us is a death sentence.
George Santayana, philosopher, essayist, poet and novelist, once said "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." While different variations of that sentiment have been quoted throughout history, one of the most memorable is, "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
That second variation fits better in this case because it is not that the radical liberal socialists that are now the face of the Democrat party cannot "remember," history because it is all documented, but they cannot seem to "learn" the lessons from history.
Time after time I see radical socialist Democrats claim that all the failed examples of socialism, where millions of citizens have been slaughtered by their own dictatorial governments, were simply because socialism wasn't done "right" in those cases.
That is because there is no way to do socialism correctly because at its very core, it requires force to strip the freedom from human beings, force to make them "comply" with the dictator's mandates, force to steal their hard-earned money in order to hand it to those "unwilling to work," which is a direct quote from Ocasio-Cortez's FAQ page, which has since been removed after it was brutally criticized.
I am giving the bottom line to Richard Ebeling, whom I quoted earlier in the article. He gave a lecture in 2017, titled "Socialism: A Century Of Death And Destruction," shown below, where he offers an "indictment" of socialism one written by a Russian dissident, who said "One could regard the death of mankind as the final result to which the development of socialism leads.
