Due to a confluence of events, experts predict a number of changes to our food supply being seen already, and more to come in 2021, which may end up becoming permanent.
The closures of businesses as part of governor lockdowns had already interrupted the food supply, where farmers and ranchers were forced to destroy much of their own produc. For farmers it was harvests and for ranchers it was the euthanization of their animals, causing store shortages of a number of products.
Then came a number of other pandemic-related issues, such as shortages of appliances, cleaning supplies, protective gear, tin cans, as well as forced changes in how one shops, limits on certain purchases and amounts of people allowed in a number of stores....on and on the changes go.
The point here is many things have already changes and many more changes are expected to come.
Those include but are not limited to; robots taking over some jobs in grocery stores (even more people jobless then); reservations made to shop at scheduled times; the cramming of more items into smaller spaces to make things look more filled, while actually having less actual product; fewer items to choose from, which is something we are already seeing mentioned; more fake meat products, and; more items found from restaurant chains rather than manufacturers.
Last but not least from the link above "More indoor and vertical farming."
You may not see these in your local grocery store, but they may be popping up just down the street thanks to now-empty office buildings that can be converted into indoor farms. "That's the perfect place to put in vertical farms because you can serve the population closer," says Lempert. "Produce also grows three times faster because it's in a controlled environment. Right now, most indoor farming is either tomatoes or leafy greens. But that's about to change."
That right there is key.
Preppers will tell you that growing your own foods, as much as possible, is the best way to guarantee survival should all hell break loose and we lose the ability to run down to the store.
Why depend on others to grow the food, where you don't know what is in it, what type of seeds were used, whether it is non-GMO or not, how it was harvested and what was used as plant food?
We'll get into that more a bit below, along with embedding a free Ebook on Hydroponics emailed to us by a generous ANP reader.
With some states extending their lockdowns, while others are trying to get the economy jump started again, it is a guarantee that many of the changes already being noted will continue, while the predicted changes simply add more problems for those already having food issues.

NEVER TOO LATE TO START GROWING YOUR OWN FOOD
In this particular moment in time there are a cornucopia of reasons why people may not want to interact with others at a grocery store.
Between the screaming Mimi "Karens" (Or Kevins!) chasing people through stores like they have the right to tell them what to do, along with the mask Nazis refusing service to those without masks, it is seriously easy to just decide not to deal with all the craziness, especially since reports indicate the insanity if just getting worse, not better.
People are tired of being locked up, tired of having their routines changed by politicians, tired of the tyrannical attitudes of state leaders, all leading to a feeling of being "overwhelmed" as we have seen some people chatting about, and a desire to just continue preparing for whatever else is coming.
With that said, anything that can be done to limit the amount of time we have to spend with crazy people, can only be a good thing.
Grow your own food, as much of it as you can. Indoor growing doesn't require as much room as many think it does, especially using hydroponics, where some systems can produce plenty of food that can then be checked off the list of what you need a grocery store for.
We discussed hydroponics and the benefits of it, back in May of 2019, and frankly it is even more important now than it was then.
Hydroponics is a method of growing nutritious sprouts and other greens and vegetables that doesn't require soil. While researching this method, we were amazed to see how many different herbs, vegetables and greens can be grown using a hydroponics system. Lettuces, tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach and much more can offer decent yields, with no messy soil or the need for a full outside garden, and they can be grown all year round.
The great part of being able to grow sprouts, vegetables, fruits and greens indoors using hydroponics is that one is not limited by season or weather and can be harvested more rapidly than traditional gardening. The best part is using non-GMO seeds and growing your own food, you always know exactly what is in the food you are eating and how fresh it is.
Back then it was for prepping, getting ready for any disaster scenario to be assured we could survive if SHTF.
Now, it has already hit the fan and is about to get exponentially worse.
From herbs, to fruits and vegetables, depending on the system you choose, can feed a family.
Seeds:Given the fact that some stores banned the selling of gardening supplies when the COVID "Panic" became the politically correct things for businesses to do, it may be prudent to get seeds now, just in case they do it again.
